GWB scandal: Lawyers hired by Christie cost taxpayers $2.2M in February

In February, Gibson Dunn placed 60 members of its staff – 56 of which charged $350 per hour – on the bridge scandal work. Some lawyers worked far more than eight-hour days.

One lawyer Alexander Southwell, for example, worked 345 hours during the month of February.

The legal expenses come at a time when New Jersey is facing pressing budget problems. Christie said recently he will reduce the amount he is contributing to the state’s pension by $2.45 billion over two fiscal years to close budget shortfalls.
