First some basic facts. Princeton Theological Seminary is just a few blocks from Princeton University. But PTS is not a PU professional school. They are totally independent institutions. They do share a common and intertwined history. And if memory serves they have a partnership arrangement where like PTS students have access to the Princeton infirmary or something like that (this part is just from memory.) Princeton University students can take classes at PTS - under some sort of reciprocity relationship. And I actually did take a class there when I was a student at Princeton.
Brat is a bit vague in his campaign site bio on the distinction. Here are the two lines.
On the first point, Brat seems to be implying that he took his rural values and stood them up against the big city elites and liberals at Princeton.
Not exactly.

(14,449 posts)I mean did he need to use the whole name? Gosh, I went to Allentown Central Catholic, but when asked, "I always say that I went to Central"....everyone understood.

(52,385 posts)princeton university is in the town of princeton, whereas harvard university is in cambridge and yale university is in new haven.
that makes it much easier for harvard and yale to keep unrelated companies from using their name.
there are many companies and institutions, many not even actually in the town of princeton, merely nearby, that use the princeton name and the credibility it implies, relying on the fact that the university can't really do anything about it.
heck, the nearby hospital is even called "university medical center at princeton", but informally known as princeton university hospital. it similarly has no formal affiliation with princeton university, which does not even have a medical school.

(63,912 posts)Princeton Theological School really attached to PU. Yale and Harvard have long had "Div Schools," as has been the traditional reasons these schools were established in the first place.

(52,385 posts)their undergraduate schools are certainly excellent schools, but they're not the highest priority of those universities.
princeton is different in that it has always put its undergraduates first. it has no professional schools and only has a graduate school large enough to keep top professors interested.
it's really a surprisingly small school in that respect.
if you hear about nearly anything with the princeton name in it, it most likely has nothing to do with the university. you need to hear specifically "princeton university" and even then you can't be entirely sure!

The Masters of these residences (called colleges) hold Master's Teas for the kids featuring former famous Yalies who have "made it" or sometimes just those who graduated from a graduate school, such as Meryl Streep --for Streep, there was understandably a packed house, but for some lesser lights they are fun to attend and have a little nosh. Or sometimes just a celebrity or entertainer. It's kinda fun when they come to little old New Haven for a visit...or speak at graduation, like John Kerry did last month...

You can't say you went to Princeton if you went to PTS.
