Welcome to Bizarro World!
During a speech at the national Faith and Freedom Conference yesterday, conservative activist Ralph Reed gave an unusual history lesson to his compatriots fighting against same-sex marriage: according to him, its very similar to the fight against slavery. (Yes, that slavery.)
Yahoo! News reports that during a breakout session, Reed, the founder of the Faith and Freedom Coalition, made an explicit connection between what he described as the judicial overreach of state courts ruling in favor of gay marriage, and the 1857 Supreme Court case Dred Scott v. Sandford, which ruled that African-Americans had no rights and were not free citizens.
Despite same-sex marriage activists scoring civil rights victories through judicial rulings, Reed argued that it didnt mean that gay marriage has widespread support among Americans. Only six of them, six out of those 17, six out of 50 states, had done it by referendum or by state legislature, he said. In every other case, it was imposed by courts. Just like the courts had to impose Dred Scott. Because they couldnt do it on the country because the country didnt agree with it. The country, by the way, doesnt agree with same-sex marriage. (Polls indicate otherwise.)

(15,384 posts)And correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't recall any kind of his going before evangelicals, claiming God had forgiven him, and he hopes they do too. Normally you can get back into their good graces and start taking their money again if you do that.

(65,616 posts)So, because few Americans care...same sex marriages should be done away with? Talk about the tyranny of the majority! Reed not only is a bigot, but a megalomaniac to boot!
No wonder he is nothing but a has been nobody! Just like a typical Repuke...he gets all the major details wrong. Americans most definitely DID want an end to slavery...namely black Americans!
Racist, bigoted AND egotistical to the core...Ralph Reed is still the poster boy for the Religious Right.
