Listening to the lyrics, it seem to me we're dealing with the same issues now as we were 40 years ago.

and hangin' in and jivin' is the only lyric in that chorus that's not a juxtaposition to "good times"
Temporary lay offs. - Good Times.
Easy credit rip offs. - Good Times.
Scratchin and surviving. - Good Times.
Hangin in and jivin' - Good Times.
Aint we lucky we got em - Good Times.
which is how the line hangin' in a chow line, which is a juxtaposition, can be easily mistaken as the line

(34,183 posts)I suppose I could find them on netflix, but it feel more authentic on tv.
Any time you meet a payment.
Good Times.
Any time you need a friend.
Good Times.
Any time you're out from under.
Not getting hastled, not getting hustled.
Keepin' your head above water,
Making a wave when you can.
Temporary lay offs.
Good Times.
Easy credit rip offs.
Good Times.
Scratchin' and surviving.
Good Times.
Hangin in a chow line
Good Times.
Ain't we lucky we got 'em
Good Times.

(11,075 posts)I remember one episode where James & Florida find a report titled "Sexual Behavior In The Projects".
Thinking that the report belongs to JJ, James is amused. But when he finds out the report is Thelma's, he explodes, "ALL RIGHT, I WANT TO KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING READING THIS FILTHY PIECE OF TRASH".
Even as an eleven year old boy, I was struck by the double standard that it was OK for the guy to be doing it but horrible if the girl does it.
I also remember this particular exchange between James and Florida in that episode:
James: "Guys don't get pregnant".
Florida: "No. But they're usually near the scene of the crime".
That was only one of many memorable episodes.

(29,503 posts)in America, lol, I always loved this theme song - most people I knew hated it (the song, the show, Norman Lear and his ideas) and of course Cabrini-Green (which is the public housing complex seen here) was infamous, rightly so, but thanks for the memories of those days.
