SALT LAKE CITY Former Utah attorneys general John Swallow and Mark Shurtleff were arrested Tuesday morning.
Both were picked up by members of the FBI and the Utah Department of Public Safety and arrived at the Salt Lake County Jail shortly after 8 a.m.
Swallow was charged in 3rd District Court with a pattern of unlawful activity, a second-degree felony, illegally accepting gifts, a second-degree felony, and two counts of receiving bribes by a public official, a third-degree felony.
Shurtleff was charged in 3rd District Court with a pattern of unlawful activity, a second-degree felony; three counts of receiving or soliciting bribes by a public official, a third-degree felony; improper use of an employee's position, a class B misdemeanor; two counts of witness tampering, one third-degree felony and one class A misdemeanor; tampering with evidence, a class A misdemeanor; and two counts of obstruction of justice, a class A misdemeanor.
Some of the charges allegedly occurred in 2009, according to court documents.
More information was expected to be released at a 9 a.m. press conference to be held at the FBI headquarters in Salt Lake City.
