Well, Gretchen Carlson, one of the "bubble-headed bleach blondes" at Faux "news" says so...
Fox Host Gretchen Carlson Warns Seinfeld's 'Festivus' Promotes Anti-Christian Persecution
Submitted by Brian Tashman on Tuesday, 7/15/2014 11:05 am
Today, the far-right website WorldNetDaily interviewed Fox News host Gretchen Carlson and Fred Thompson, the former U.S. Senator and presidential candidate, about their roles in the new film Persecuted, a thriller about looming anti-Christian oppression in the U.S. While Thompson pointed to Obamacare and the Hobby Lobby case as examples of the government persecuting Christians, Carlson once again highlighted the real force crushing the freedoms of Christians in America: Seinfeld. She told WorldNetDaily that Festivus, the secular holiday popularized by the 1997 Seinfeld episode The Strike, is helping erode Americas heritage and strip our society of certain things that have been in existence for a long time.

I was taken aback by the alerter's words, which were based on sheer imagination, not based on anything I have EVER said. Oh what the heck, I'll repost it here. I have NEVER IN MY LIFE said anything like the alerter accused me of saying!
ALERTER'S COMMENTS
Heard this "logic" all my life by racists in the south (some of them democrats) "I don't think all black people are n-words just the ones who do x"
Bigoted slurs maintain oppression and they have no place on DU.
JURY RESULTS
A randomly-selected Jury of DU members completed their review of this alert at Tue Jul 15, 2014, 10:53 AM, and voted 4-3 to HIDE IT.

Juror #5 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #6 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: I think we could use some clear guidelines regarding if, or how/when, it's ok to use "bitch" in a hosted forum such as ours. But without that in front of me I'll, gently, vote for this post to be hidden. It's too often used as a weapon of oppression and I don't think we can casually ignore that.
There are other ways to just as well express the sentiment and reasoning behind the post in question.
Juror #7 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: I don't subscribe to the idea that all use of the word is bad and directed to demean all women. Leave it.

(82,383 posts)What has that got to do with this thread?
The post you responded to I merely laughed at Christians for thinking Festivus was replacing them without reference to the fact the characters weren't Christian anyway, but Jewish.

Anyway, of course! Besides, all holidays at the autumnal equnox are built upon pagan celebrations thousands of years B.C. Probably sub-human cavemen stared the whole end-of-December celebrations.

In a way, she's right!
I fucking hate Christmas. It's become a consumer orgy. It's fine for little kids, but I don't have any little kids, and there aren't any in the extended family any more. Have tried to opt out for a couple of decades now. Probably since around '97. Sometimes I get sucked back in to a degree, sometimes I manage to keep it to little more than dinner with the family, which I enjoy. But 2 months of it? Meh. However, every year now, Sweetie and I "celebrate" Festivus, on the 23rd, where it belongs. And each year more and more friends join us.
And why is this? We are, in fact CONSCIOULY trying to "'erode' Americas 'heritage' and 'strip our society of certain things that have been in existence for a long time.'" Absolutely, we are doing this. Its time to get rid of the bullshit, and replace it with things that are either not bullshit or are COMPLETELY bullshit. Festivus is the perfect example of the latter. I love made up holidays, and Festivus, along with Pi Day and Talk Like a Pirate Day, are my favorites.

Henley dedicated one performance of this song live to Faux "news," and I figure the "bubble headed bleach blond, comes on at 5," could easily describe any of the Faux "news" people. Female or male, blond or not.
