There are two main views on life in these United States. On the one hand is the Liberal, Progressive, Hope for Changer's view of life.
On the other hand are the conservatives: Let's be careful, have trust in the establishment, things are just fine, all we need is a little tweak here, a little tweak there.
The Left is for a better world, yesterday: "Rock on!"
The Cons are pretty much for the status quo: "Don't rock the boat"
Then there is the larger mass of humanity that for one reason or another don't want to think about any of it. They just want to keep their heads down and be allowed to graze away the daze.
DU is a treasure in that it has so many progressives in one place, at one time, with so much hope for change, that it makes the cons dizzy.
Rock on DU!

(9,733 posts)I agree with you that DU is a treasure. Thanks for saying it so well!

(13,685 posts)They read some of what is the best of DU and their heads begin to spin. Their words show the momentum of that spin.
Cons are so hard set against change that we still don't have an ERA, Empire still sucks down a majority of federal spending, the environment is crashing and plain innocent humans are daily sacrificed on the altar of their imagined security.

(26,110 posts)That's not wanting to keep the status quo.
But then they are such losers anyway. They are pretty much happy with the old ways is what I mean by the 'status quo'. The reality, and why they are spinning so much, is that they are losing to progressive ideas.
Little by little, we are winning. It will never be fast enough for the Rock On types. I am sure even Obama is quite frustrated at the rate of Change he has been able to accomplish.

(13,685 posts)In my view they still control the economy.
It has been said that LBJ traded the war on Vietnam for votes to pass civil rights and Medicare and to jump start the war on poverty. Major stuff that the cons are still fighting 50 years later.
Now we have human rights billowing all across the country, we have bad laws being written away, the US is less Empire building than we have been in a decade and the trend is looking better for more and more peace. Solar power gains more each day, cars are polluting less, coal plants are being made to clean up their act or close. The list goes on and on.... progress. The cons hate all that.

(9,610 posts)I have most of them (conservatives) on ignore currently. One in this thread even.

(13,685 posts)I guess you are not from around here? Bwahaha
The conservatives are just that: supporters of the way things are. Against change, against progress.
Liberal people on earth know that.

(65,616 posts)The GOP would have already gone to war with Russia, HATES the federal government (establishment), thinks things are way out of control (ie want to go back to the days before Civil Rights), want to DESTROY the entire system and take down everyone with them as they go!
So I can only assume you did not mean the GOP, but people of true conservative ideology
That's why they hate Liberals. Because we are working to improve the system, stay out of wars, have more regulation of capitalism and improve everyone's lives.
You nailed them, good job.
The problem is, on DU, there are some closeted conservatives.
