(15,221 posts)...and I've done a lot of hiking on Monadnock and Pack Monadnock this year, and Mount Washington once. I walk and run through Mine Falls park in Nashua almost daily in good (and even not so good) weather. I vaguely recall seeing a monarch butterfly once this year. I don't remember where for sure. I think it might have been on Mount Washington.
Maybe it's that I don't pay enough attention to such things. When I'm hiking, I do it as exercise, without a lot of soaking in the scenery except when I rest at a summit. I certainly haven't seen any trees that attract a lot of butterflies -- but maybe that requires sitting still and looking at a single tree more than I'm apt to do.

(13,893 posts)from my deck. You can google "butterfly bush" and see the bush/small tree. Its blooms seem to attract the butterflies. I also have a field with milkweed.

(115,732 posts)Our Master Gardener group (in Minnesota) has been keeping track of sightings, and there have been many more than last year. I think more people have become aware of how their numbers are down and are starting to grow butterfly-friendly plants like milkweed.
