That's something they might be able to push in rural Wyoming, maybe even in the very rural parts of PA. My relativs grew up in rural central Pa. and they not only KNEW gun safety at age 10, but some were sent out with a few shells and told to get dinner for the family. To even HINT something like that were the majority of us live in 2014 is PURE INSANITY!

What sort of demon-haunted world do these people live in, that they need a gun to get through life?

I've been in the military, I've learned how to shoot, I'm damn good with a bow as well as a gun, and I've had enough hand to hand and some stick-fighting training.

But I never, ever felt the need to have a gun around me constantly. Not only because I am not always afraid, but because I find that too many people in this country will use an easy tool such as brute strength, an edged weapon, or a firearm to gain advantage when faced with what could be a minor conflict and escalate it into a deadly situation than actually check their emotional over-reactions and use their brains to think through a problem.

Teaching the child patience, self-respect, and to use their brains is much more effective than teaching their child to handle a firearm.

Now, if there is going to be a firearm in the house, I would definitely expect a requirement to have firearms training for the entire family. Including how to safely handle and store a firearm, because they aren't supposed to be accessories, and they aren't toys!

But why stop with children? Let's have a mandatory training session for each and every firearm owner. After a two-week course, the owner must demonstrate proficiency in all phases of gun ownership. He or she gets a certificate, their firearms are registered with the government, and they go through training each and every year for each and every gun or rifle they have. No stacking of courses. The owner must pay for the course out of pocket. If any of their weapons accidentally gets found at the airport by a TSA screener, they forfeit all ownership rights for failing to be well-regulated. If their weapon is stolen, they must report it within 24 hours. If their weapon is used more than 24 hours later in the commission of a crime and they haven't reported it, they are equally culpable as the criminal. In addition, firearm owners have to volunteer as militia members for no less than two weeks each year at their own expense.

"Well-regulated militia" here we come!
