Workers are fed up with Fred Meyer's bull

On the morning of July 1, dairy workers from the Darigold member dairies met with Melinda Merrill, Public Affairs Director of Fred Meyer stores. As we reported, workers told their stories about how they and the animals are abused. This meeting took place the day after workers brought more than 10,000 signatures on a petition to Fred Meyer headquarters. Ms. Merrill responded she would speak to company executives after the July 4th weekend and get back to us.
Workers and their allies continued to share the message with Fred Meyer consumers by handing out flyers at stores the weekend of July 12. Melinda Merrill sent an email to the UFW, threatening that the UFW would lose her commitment to talk with Fred Meyer executives if the UFW did not stay away from their stores.
Since July 12 we have heard nothing further from Ms. Merrill. As a result, workers and their supporters are leafleting in front of Fred Meyer stores in the Pacific Northwest every weekend advising consumers about the issue.
Workers and consumers are fed up. They want a response. Would you send your message today to Fred Meyer Public Affairs Director Melinda Merrill? Tell her that as a major seller of Darigold products, Fred Meyer stores has a responsibility to tell Darigold to resolve the reported abuse of workers and cows at Darigold member dairies.
