There used to be a cornfield.

Then the fracking companies were given dibs on our water. We are supposedly an agricultural community, but we now have more than 18000 oil/gas wells in the county. Somehow, oil on the cob just doesn't sound as tasty . . .

Keep up the good fight. All new natural gas requires fracking. It's going to be this decades fight for our ground water.

line up at that sign where it says "yield to pedestrians" and walk across it whenever a vehicle appears.

They should also get a cop to write tickets for those that don't stop.

The title of the OP reminded me of my home town where there used to be a cornfield before Walmart
burned it down, there used to be fine oak trees but they're no longer around.
