...and the House comes back to the Democrats, the Senate becomes filibuster proof.
Scalia and Thomas retire and the court becomes 6 - 3 reflecting the true demographics of the U.S.
The party of elephant dung implodes like the Reform Party, but not before they stand up an ideologically pure candidate in 2016 who will be crushed by Hillary Rodham Clinton.

Because contend with the Propaganda Machine.
Specifically Fox News and the channels that imitate Fox News (CNN, etc etc)
and The Koch Brothers and Karl Rove's Crossroads Groups.
They are already projecting their failings, poor leadership qualities, and bad policies on Obama and Democrats.
Next thing you know they will accuse Obama of strapping Bo to the top of his car.
They have ENDLESS amounts of cash. This election season is gonna make Swiftboats for Truth look like a kindergarten fight over a cookie.
Will people fall for the BS? Nearly half of the US will. Maybe more. It is gonna be non-stop RAW SEWAGE dumped on the airwaves and the internet.
Very important to get out the vote this year. It is going to be very close.

(97 posts)9-11 would be just another day, we would have a strong green energy policy, there would be low unemployment, the rich would be paying their fair share, it is so sad to think of what could have been.

(283 posts)The GOP senators up for re-election in 2012 are, for the most part, the survivors of the 2006 purge. If they survived that, it means they are relatively safe. Anti-GOP sentiment was worse in 2006, than it is today. Just being realistic - I see no filibuster proof majority.
The current house split is 241 vs 194. To flip that would require a flip of 24 seats. And thats above and beyond the chaos caused to some sitting members, due to re-districtiing. To put it in perspective, the house gains in 2006 were 31. Again, just being realistic - I see the house staying red.
Presidential race - I don't think any of us are prepared to know exactly what the flood of money, which will define this election, will bring. Romney has beat GOP opponents, by outspending them, as much as 7:1. He will never be able to do that against Obama. Obama beat McCain, by outspending him 2:1. That is not going to happen against Romney. Sadly, money plays a large part int he outcome....usually....but these two candidates will cancel each other out in that category. Nobody knows how either will do, without a huge advantage in that category.
Real Clear Politics has Obama +4.9 for now; and, no poll on their site shows Romney winning. So today's perdiction would be an Obama win.
So...things would stay just as they are now, with the exception of perhaps a SCOTUS member deciding he can no longer run out the clock, and choosing to retire).
My cynical, realistic view of the election, if it were held today.
