corporate subsidies:
With political pressure mounting from the White House down, Walgreen Co. is poised to announce Wednesday that it will keep its corporate headquarters in north suburban Deerfield.
Walgreens is scheduled to hold an investor call very early Wednesday morning to discuss its acquisition of a smaller drug company, Alliance Boots, a deal that has been in the works for more than a year.
But according to several news reports, Walgreen Co. will not re-incorporate in Switzerland, where Alliance Boots is headquartered, a move that could have saved the company significantly in reincorporating in a nation with a lower corporate tax rate.

I can only say I didn't vote for him. This fall I won't vote for him. It's sad there is no strong challenger in the race.

(29,082 posts)When you say there is no strong challenger -- I thought Toni Preckwinkle was running,
and I thought she was at least a bit strong -- Am I wrong?

(9,748 posts)The general consensus around Chicago is that Rahm will be a one term mayor.
He has money. And coming from the White House gave him star power. But he has never had much of a political base in the city.
I can't stand the Rahmfather!

(23,558 posts)It's a pretty powerful position and she is doing well with it and she is very popular.
Too bad she would be much better than Rahm.

(6,719 posts)I am sure being mayor of Chicago is not easy. But he seems to work against the people whenever there is an article here. I do not live there so have no balance. Have been surprised by his behavior ever since he got into office.

(23,558 posts)like Rahm. Back in the '70s I remember thinking this about Chicago democrats being a let down. We had Mayor Harold Washington who was a true progressive populist in the '80s for a bit. But, he died in office. Then we went back to another Daley.

(26,501 posts)of giving a shit. I remember reading an article on The Reader in which they compared Emanuel's day to day schedule with Daley's. It talked about Daley actually meeting with his constituents from the millionaire to the butcher. Our current Joe Pesci Character Wannabe only seems to have time for the millionaires/billionaires on his schedule.

(11,362 posts)I'm no fan of Rahm Emanuel, but Walgreen's is not currently located in Chicago (it's in Deerfield as per the article), so it's not within his jurisdiction.
Is there something saying he offered them some sort of deal involving city funds?

(1,898 posts)Hopefully Karen Lewis runs, if one of them run I will be volunteering for their campaigns. Rahm has got to go. I will not vote for him no matter what, if that means I have to write my dog's name in I will vote for her over Emanuel.
