female anchor ignited a controversy when she appeared without a headscarf during a national news broadcast on a Saudi government-run channel. A clip of the broadcast was posted to YouTube on July 29 and has been making the rounds on social media.
This week, a spokesman for Saudi news channel Al Ekhbariya said the woman in the segment was delivering her news bulletin out of the London office and said similar incidents would not happen in the future. She was not in a studio inside Saudi Arabia and we do not tolerate any transgression of our values and the countrys systems, Saleh Al Mughailif said, per Gulf News.

Interesting values indeed - or mixed values.
Where's the outrage over ISIS and Hamas? Many thousands alone have been massacred by ISIS.
A reporter appears out of uniform and that's where they want action.
It will be great when we are no longer dependent on middle eastern oil.
I pray the reporter survives.

(2,273 posts)tape delay to prevent anything like this from happening. It sounds like those in charge did not see a problem with it till the neanderthals began beating their chests in protest and then it's all of a sudden her fault.

(28,581 posts)A lot of people here understand that killing and war will only encourage more radical views. Also people here understand that not all Muslims are the same, not all Muslims think the same. There is a lot of diversity within the religion and within all the different cultures.
Positive change will never be brought about by bombs, guns and occupation.

(3,655 posts)The Sufi are far more liberal than other sects. The man behind the controversial Islamic Center is one. His wife wears no scarf and is the leader of a large organization. They are routinely targeted by more conservative sects.

That being said, I find it difficult to not recognize the contributions to the great cultural and scientific contributions made by the Islamic world throughout history. While Europeans were slogging around in the swamps of the Dark Ages, it was the eastern universities keeping the lights burning. You don't have to outright totally reject a culture because of the practices of its extremists.

It actually is possible to have to separate conversations about the two.

(25,699 posts)We oppose knee-jerk right-wing Islamophobic fuckwits who troll on liberal websites to further their myopic and violent perception of the world, exploiting misdeeds of some Muslims to justify their hatred of all Muslims.
don't worry, it's a common mistake.

(4,238 posts)They have literally ethnically-cleansed northern Iraq of the indigenous Assyrian/Chaldean populations, and are now targeting the Yazidis. These are small minority communities that are given the "option" of converting to Islam, paying a hefty tax, or being killed (in reality, the first one isn't even an option as witnesses have reported that even after some converted they were slaughtered anyway.)
I know our media is only able to tackle one crisis at a time, and that's Gaza right now. But there is another tragic genocide occurring in the region that is being ignored. IS has won territory in Syria, Iraq and now there are reports that they have made their way into Lebanon (interestingly, the three most diverse middle eastern countries.) Wish they'd make their way into Saudi, but you know -- can't bite the hand that feeds you.
