(47,953 posts)There have been long discussions over this on DU in the past. As far as I am concerned, this is the same tactic as using the "antisemite" label to censor criticism of Israel.

(15,429 posts)He now draws Obama as a gorilla.

(37,549 posts)I felt I should ask you, rather than go to a jury. I think your threads are great, but for Ted Rall.
I do not think Ted Rall is a racist. I do think that he does not like many of the President's actions. He is far to the left of the President on most issues.
What, specifically, about this toon is racist? Is it that Obama is drawn as a black man? Is it because Ted isn't a very good artist and Obama's caricature isn't lifelike? Is it because Ted draws Obama as a farmer to mock his "folk" comments? Or is it about some cartoon he drew in the past that some found objectionable, and so he is forevermore never to be mentioned again?
I've posted his toons with regularity. The only time I get these complaints is when he dares to criticize Obama. Other cartoonists criticize Obama, are they all racist? Or is Ted so because he chooses not to draw well.

(37,549 posts)over time from human, to increasingly ape-like...the progression over time is undeniable. When this was noted on Kos, Mr. Rall engaged in a racist tirade in defense of himself. He was banned.
I find the term "imaginary racism" coming from those who claim to be "progressive" to be paternalistic and condescending. Is it that you think AA people are not capable of seeing racism? Or is it the utter arrogance of white progressives, who think they are the arbiters of other's racial experiences?
Have you considered asking the AA group what they think?
And I will not. Go ahead and alert if you like. We will just have to disagree. If I end up getting tossed from DU for posting toons critical of the President, when I feel he has erred, so be it. I don't like echo chambers.
People have a wide range of sensitivities. African Americans are not a monolithic block, and I do not claim to speak for them. You shouldn't either.
Funny how Daily Kos is seen as some sort of supreme arbiter of progressivism. I've seen many threads on DU calling DK the opposite. It all depends on whose sacred cow is getting busted on. Same with FDL, even though it now seems ok to post from that site on DU.

(37,549 posts)have changed...after all, the evidence was provided to you on this thread.
What you dispute, it seems, is if they are racist. You do not find them to be.
Well, you and I disagree. And I am sorry about that.

(47,953 posts)Stop acting like a troll. You don't know me and you have no right to attach your own biases to me. You are on ignore.
I think Rall is quite adept at political cartooning. Some "folks" seem to avoid looking at Obama's missteps because "OMG! Racism!!"--just as you pointed out about criticisms of Israel ("OMG!! Anti-semitism!!!" I think I'll update MY IL...

(46,192 posts)so would that mean that you could call him a racial epithet if you didn't like his policy on say, CIA policies?
i mean, look objectively at your argument. you never address whether depicting someone as a gorilla (when one never did that before) is racist or not.
you basically keep saying, you don't agree with Policy X or Policy Y, therefore depicting Obama as a gorilla is not racist.
that's false logic.
