At least I can read the msgs. but I won't be posting (too much trouble with my health problems).
I don't think anyone knows what is really wrong...it's neurological that's for sure..can't walk, speech is slurred..memory has always been stellar and still is. Ditto with cognition. I'll take their misdiagnosis of Advanced MS.
I have usually kept my opinions to myself anyway ...no huge loss!

(36,518 posts)I was diagnosed with MS 30 years ago. I went to a second doctor for the severe pain in my back. Her diagnosis was a B12 deficiency. When I told the first doctor, he scoffed & questioned where she got her medical degree, but that's what it was. I was off work for 6 months & in a wheel chair for 3 of them. I think a lot of things look like MS. Sending positive vibes your way & hoping they can figure out what ails you.

(47,602 posts)How scary that must have been.
My ex-husband was diagnosed with MS 20 years ago and he's managed to stay relatively active without medication. He's slowed down a lot, but he has a lot of will power, not to mention many animals who depend on him.

(36,518 posts)Another friend was diagnosed eight years ago, but it wasn't MS, but I don't recall what it was. I just remember "House" & how often the diagnosis was the biggest hurdle.

Good to see you too! I don't come over here quite as often, but there has been so much going on lately, I needed to keep up. Nice to know there are still some familiar faces here. Noticed quite a bit of organized trolling though, not like the old days where it was mostly the crazies.

(9,126 posts)I'm just going to give some information on B12 deficiency or pernicious anemia in case you haven't been checked. The symptoms are what you describe and it is sometimes misdiagnosed as possibly MS. If your doctor hasn't tested you, DEMAND it as many doctors no longer do. It is a simple test and the treatment (shots from the doctor or self-administered) is very inexpensive and easy. You should be optimal, not at the low-normal end.
Here is a blog post by a scientific researcher, but a much better resource is a book called Could it be B12? written by a nurse and backed up with lots of scientific information (so it isn't woo).
http://chriskresser.com/b12-deficiency-a-silent-epidemic-with-serious-consequences
I won't give the anecdotal personal stories of someone I know, but it is definitely worth checking out. If you normally avoid meat, organ meat (such as liver) or have ever been diagnosed as anemic, it might be something to look into.

(1,701 posts)As someone who suffers from a couple of chronic health conditions--but none anywhere near as serious as what you are describing--I sympathize. I have no medical expertise, but I am seeing a naturopath who has helped me a great deal through acupuncture. I would say that if you can find a good naturopath, it might be worth trying.

(5,562 posts)Here's a free e-book that might help you. There is good information even if it isn't MS. I second going for acupuncture however make sure you do a bit of checking around to find a good one as like family doctors there are some better than others. Mine is a Dr of Chinese Medicine and practices Japanese style of acupuncture, and she is amazing.

My dear former Mother-in-law had to deal with the cruelty of MS and misdiagnoses and a multitude of doctors trying to figure out what could be wrong. At one point she told me that her therapists were always on her case about holding her head up, literally. Her favorite response, the best comeback she had, was, "It's the thought that counts!"
Your voice here will be missed.

(37,573 posts)Somebody wrote this story into Reader's Digest
A woman was sitting at a table in front of a banner that said "Help stop MS" When a guy came up, put money in the jar and said "Here's $10, I hate that women's lib stuff too."
Sorry to hear about your severe health problems Ms. Alicia, although we are strangers. Time gets us all eventually.

(584 posts)After searching for months and seeing more than several neurologists, I finally found one that LISTENED to me instead of talking at me and scribbling in his charts and not looking at me. He was a cross between
Patch Adams and Hawk Eye Pierce, a very sharp, funny, caring guy.
All the other Doctors didn't think it could be what I had googled and investigated, well, "Patch" & I googled
it together and he conferred. So, he gave me a drug and boom, I no longer go to the ER once a week, I
have a normal life that other Doctors said I couldn't have.
Please don't stop looking for another Dr., YOU need to take control of YOUR LIFE.
Good Luck!

(104 posts)It's none of my business, but how old are you? I was diagnosed with NPH two years ago at 68 and had the shunt surgery that has pretty much saved my life--in fact allowed me to live my life again. The tests involve a lumbar puncture (spinal tap) ct scan and MRI. If you test positive, a shunt is placed in your brain that shunts the excess csf off.
<http://www.ninds.nih.gov/disorders/normal_pressure_hydrocephalus/normal_pressure_hydrocephalus.htm>
If that description sounds remotely like you, find yourself a good neurologist and a good neurosurgeon and get tested and get it fixed.
Good luck!
