Somebody needs a new job come 2015. That somebody is Tennessee State Sen. Stacey Campfield, who lost his primary election.
Most notoriously, Campfield backed a bill "requiring schools to out gay children to their parents" and forbidding "school personnel from counseling kids on 'mental health issues or lifestyle choices' at allthat is, unless these employees are clinical psychologists or psychiatrists." Campfield's "Don't Say Gay" legislation got him national attention and interviews with progressives like Michaelangelo Signorile and David Pakman.
And here are more of Campfield's greatest hits:
"Most people realize that AIDS came from the homosexual community...It was one guy screwing a monkey, if I recall correctly, and then having sex with men. It was an airline pilot, if I recall." (From interview with Signorile)
Introducing a bill tying welfare benefits to children's grades.
Rude emails to critics.
And calling a child who expressed concern about his welfare bill a "prop".
This DU thread shows his history of being a troll since 2005.
I'm sorry that the home of the University of Tennessee had to be represented by this idiot. (But at least a Democrat represents Knoxville in the TN House!) A decade of tomfoolery - piled on by national embarrassment for Campfield - had to be enough for Campfield's constituents!
