Like a tiny voice told me. . . But it also said I just got to always remember . . . repeat it to yourself over and over . . . . can't forget: Just wash your hands! . . . Wash your hands! . . (4,458 posts)believe Weiner was/is - is irrelevant to the fact he was taken down politically for a very (in the big picture) Minor personal matter-while people like Issa, Vitter and so many others weren't.
But - the way I see it, because Weiner was going after SCOTUS on critical issues, and Thomas' potential conflict of interest on a couple decisions he would not recuse from--suddenly (both sides) needed to completely destroy and keep destroyed his reputation.
I still miss his political voice. He revealed a lot of shenanigans happening in DC yet instead we focus on his health problems and publicly flog and humiliate him for far less than other politicians who are still working and in public light.
What hypocrites we are, imo-because usually if a person is ill or disabled we stand in defense of them.

(19,359 posts)Have you heard what his colleagues said about him? (Grandstanding. Never doing the real work. Etc.)
I think Alan Grayson is that voice/edge now. He might have an ego, but I think more substantial.
Otherwise, I feel no reason to defend a joke. I'm not politically correct.

(4,458 posts)but I disagree that he is a joke...he's ill-ego is a symptom of his health care issues.
As far as what his colleagues said-Isn't that true of a majority of politicians in DC these days? Who are they to cast the first stones?
I like Grayson-a lot. But we still have a deficit of the outspoken "for the people" types. We need to add to that population, not satisfy ourselves with what we have left. We used to have both.
I think what Weiner did was rather awful and personal-but still a matter between him and his family. That alone doesn't stop my admiration for his voice.
