Seasoned watchers of the Sunday morning talk shows know they can turn on the TV in any given week and have a good chance of seeing John McCain's face staring back at them.
On her latest show, CNN's Candy Crowley tried to explain why it is that her program turns to McCain so often ("State of the Union" has now had McCain on 6 times this year alone).
"Senator McCain, lots of people, when we have you on, often say, why do you have him on so often?" she told McCain. "And we say because he answers our questions, because he expresses his views quite clearly."
Translation: McCain is "good on TV," a reliable soundbite machine who will show up at the drop of a hat. Crowley didn't discuss whether such predictability makes her show any better.

(13,390 posts)I get so aggravated when they interview people and they give the same non answer over and over again.
He does actually make definitive statements. The problem that she didn't acknowledge is that they are then implicitly backed up by the string of non answers. The media is once again complicit in keeping the public informed only to the point of getting them to support military action as opposed to offering various points of view.
What I don't understand is how they don't see the creepiness in his hawkishness as a problem.

(41,692 posts)The "renegade" has been propped up as the anti-Obama on foreign policy. He still comes off as a renegade because he comes across as unscripted. I don't think he is, though.
She also didn't mention that he starts and stirs conflict among talking heads that is so popular in infotainment.

(16,254 posts)I think Candy needs to retire. She is no longer aggressive and seems to want mundane conversations to mark her time left before retirement.
Go, Candy. I'm sure there are EYPs out there that would love to take your spot.
