Yeah I know I'm fanning the flames again (after the non stop 50 Shades threads) but this is a local story that came up last week and is being discussed today on a local public radio call-in show:
Ahmed said the district is violating state education law mandating that instructional material be age appropriate, although she acknowledged the term age appropriate is open to interpretation.
Ahmed said she believes Fremont is "culturally a very conservative place" and that could account for a lot of the uproar over the book.
"But I am a very liberal person, and, in spite of that, I still find the book shocking," Ahmed said.
And hear what ANOTHER parent has to say!
The school board ultimately decided not to use the book.

(108,978 posts)when there are plenty of other sex ed texts that don't go into the "sauces and spices."
People can discover those for themselves, outside of their high school classes.
So many young people lack BASIC facts -- e.g., that you can still get pregnant if the guy pulls out "in time." That's what the schools should be teaching.

Contraception needs to be taught in high school. Budgeting and literacy skills need to be taught in high school. All of these are topics that every high school graduate needs to know.
BDSM isn't.
