Vigil planned for San Francisco beating victim

A San Francisco man who was found brutally beaten Sunday near Duboce Park is expected to die at a hospital, a close friend said Wednesday.

Meanwhile, friends of the victim, 31-year-old Bryan Higgins, were organizing a vigil to be held Wednesday afternoon near where the mysterious attack occurred.

Higgins was discovered unconscious on Duboce and Church streets at 7:30 a.m. with no wallet or identification. Paramedics brought him to San Francisco General Hospital with serious injuries, and authorities soon put a call out to media, hoping to put a name to their John Doe.

The strategy worked, and Brian Busta, an artist who was neighbors with Higgins near Noe and Market streets, said he identified his friend at the hospital Monday.
