Because if this Michael Brown case goes to trial the defense for this cop will use the video against the witnesses . I'm looking at Lawrence O show with this Female witness and he's questioning her like she's in a actual trail

(3,891 posts)I saw the segment, and the woman with O'Donnell is a Trial Attorney, and then explained why the witness was credible and considered an "A" by her.
The only reason not to want this information in the public eye is because you don't want people thinking that the Police are brutality incarnate who would execute an unarmed black man in broad daylight in the middle of the street.
The Trial attorney, I don't know her name, said that when Michael Brown held his hands up and was shot again, and again, that was murder one. Premeditated murder.

(62,444 posts)There are attorneys who cannot resist pimping themselves by using their clients to gain publicity.
I always tell my clients, "If your attorney is talking about your case on television, or suggesting you do, fire him or her immediately."

(32,017 posts)Our legal system is designed to try cases in a court of law and not in the court of public opinion. Any attorney who chooses to try a case in the court of public opinion is defying the court and worsening his or her client's chances of success in the court that really matters--the court of law.

The officer involved would be better served pleading guilty.

(7,412 posts)- It gets the story out there when the public is craving details.
- It could backfire if the witness stories are somehow contradicted early and publicly by the eventual forensic evidence, autopsy results, etc.
What I mean by contradictory evidence is say for example the witnesses state he was shot in the back while running away but the evidence at the crime scene shows all bullets entered from the front for a hypothetical example.
99% of the info out at the moment is speculation so I expect several surprises as actual facts come out and reports from different entities are released.
This will take up to a year to play out, we won't get anything from the officer's side since it would be stupid from a legal standpoint for them to make statements or give interviews at this point.

(14,040 posts)that they have begged to give statements to the police, the FBI, the State Atty General and none of them would take the time to interview them. Johnson went to the police station that day asking to give his statement and they turned him away--he then contacted the NAACP who got him an attorney and they went back again and the police turned him away. When he did his first interview, which was on Monday I think, the attorney and he had contact the FBI and they did say they wanted to talk to him but I don't think they did until yesterday. He was there with Mike Brown. He is the first person anyone with any interest in a real investigation would want to talk to.
I don't know the story on the female witness but if it's anything like Johnson's, the only recourse they had was to go to the press. I think their attorney's and the NAACP know what they're doing in this regard.

(25,704 posts)In order to make money he needs ratings. These witnesses = ratings.
The reason msnbc exists is to sell advertising. If they could make more money showing wrestling 24 hours a day then we would be watching Jake The Snake Roberts instead of said Lawrence O.
