Here's a nice picture for your Thursday night:
This is the desperate attempt by Matt Drudge to show that Michael Brown, who was shot down, unarmed, and, from multiple witness accounts, with his hands up and moving away from a police car in Ferguson, Missouri, was some kind of thug. How him flipping off the camera (in a jokey, "I'm-just-scratching" way) accomplishes this only the terrier-fucking Drudge would know. Drudge and other shit-eaters of the right just have to gangsta Brown up in order to protect the power of the cop-soldiers who, until tonight, were acting like total, deranged, over-armed, roided-up cockholes with protesters, reporters, and people at home in Ferguson.
And to what end do Drudge and the cop's water carriers need to show this? To say that it was okay to gun the 18 year-old down?
Let's be fucking clear about Michael Brown:
It doesn't matter if he was the biggest drug dealer in the St. Louis metropolitan area.
It doesn't matter if he was the baddest gangsta in the Ferguson 'hood.
It doesn't matter if he was the biggest pimp in the state.
It doesn't matter if he had committed robberies or purse snatchings.
It doesn't matter how many gang signs he flashed with his hands.
It doesn't matter if he said, "Fuck tha police" every chance he got.
It doesn't matter if he flipped off cops or grabbed his junk while looking at them.
None of that justifies being gunned down by a police officer. None of it.
Of course, Michael Brown wasn't any of the above.
What does matter is what the cop did and what the cops have done and will do. You can bet that the officer who shot Brown didn't ask if he was a future college student. He was just another nigger, indistinguishable from the niggers around him, and that was enough.

He got suspended from school. They totally gangsterized him.

(813 posts)for what's going on in this country. If they were white, they would still be called children, African American children are no different, but to them, they are "adult thugs". Full disclosure, I'm white, my son is 20 and in the scheme of things, he's still a "baby"; meaning an absence of life experience. I feel the same for these kids shot down in cold blood, whether from cops, or wanna be cops.
If they'd take a look at the FB pages of white kids, they'd find he exact same things. The only difference is that they're used against African Americans to impugn their characters, when it has nothing to do with the issue at hand.

I remember their assholish complaints about the picture of Trayvon that made him look young and innocent and their fake pictures of gangsters that weren't even him.
What are they implying? Zimmerman would have known none of that anyway.
people are either incredibly racist (my vote), or are willfully ignorant with no critical thinking skills. Either way, it's pathetic.

(3,568 posts)that makes me just hate right wingers. They're absolutely despicable.
I figure that the only way people like Limbaugh, Drudge, Hannity, etc., and their millions of followers can possibly maintain such a hateful, stupid, ignorant, and just generally MEAN philosophy, year in and year out is because they're just thoroughly rotten people to begin with. They can be overcome, but I don't believe they can ever be changed. They are what they are and will remain so until they're dead. We just have to hope that, in time, common sense and the truth will prevail and these shitheads and their minions will be shoved aside and marginalized as much as possible.

I don't know anyone who, in their teen and young adult years, hasn't posed for some kind of strutting, look-at-me-in-the-full-glory-of-my-youth, emulating-some-superstar, braggadocio pose. Those are the pictures we take out when we're old, and we laugh and smile about them, because we really did think for that brief moment that we looked "cool." (9,897 posts)The Ferguson Police and their war-like reaction and with-holding of the officer's name and blatant disregard for procedure - both in responding to Mike Brown after he was shot and lay dying or dead in the street and in abandoning their own procedures for communicating the names and histories of officers involved in these situations.
The eyewitness accounts and interviews do NOT paint a pretty picture and the police behavior absolutely screams "WE ARE HIDING AND LYING"...
The officer has a chance to come forward and tell his story, if I were innocent or involved in such a tragedy, you bet your ass I would be apologizing and working to defuse the situation - IF I WAS INNOCENT....IF I WAS GUILTY? = Lawyer up and hide.
The cop who shot an unarmed man multiple times, did not immediately check the body or attempt to administer CPR or bring in EMTs with the haste of a downed officer (instead of up to 30 minutes later) IS a monster, period.

(19,926 posts)Cops are supposed to be trained to hold their fire unless it's absolutely necessary. To use restraint. There's a term for when they don't, it's called unnecessary force.
Cops are supposed to NEVER shoot an unarmed person in the back as they are fleeing. If you've been keeping up with the news at all you'll know that there are a lot - way too many - of murders of minorities by cops. Yes, murders. Be it shootings or choke holds. They are purposely using excessive force, presumably because they are in an environment that is overrun with structural and systemic racism. Even if it's not overt racism, it's about the poor, the minorities, the group that's not like them, they get painted as the bad guys while the cops are the good guys and the cops take an attitude that the lives of those "animals" (term used by a cop at the Ferguson protests) doesn't mean anything because they are all less than, they are disposable in the minds of the cops.
So yeah, when a person of authority, who is armed, shoots an unarmed person in the back, they are a murderer. When it happens disproportionately along racial lines and to people who have not even broken the law, they are a monster.

(2,741 posts)I wonder if I would have been beaten or shot. In the '70's, I was a long-haired, hippy freak PhD candidate at U of Houston. I often did laundry in the early morning hours. I was stopped by the police frequently in those hours because I had to be a druggie. I wasn't. I washed my clothes. Each time I was stopped, for no reason other than long hair, I refused to get out of my VW. The cops had no authority to make me since they had no reason to search my car. They usually just got pissed at me and let me go. I am not black.
In today's America, I probably would have been dragged from my car, beaten, and thrown into jail. Or worse.
When will cops stop murdering innocent citizens? Does Drudge or Palin or Hannity...or the other idiots...have an answer for us?

(246 posts)The word that best describes what's at the heart of this issue is proportionality. Was the response by the police officer proportional to the alleged offense committed? I always thought police were trained to use the minimal force necessary and de-escalate the situation. But it appears that the "stand your ground" mentality has become the norm in some police departments.

Ferguson police name Darren Wilson as officer who shot Michael Brown
Police chief Thomas Jackson said Wilson stopped the unarmed teenager after reports of a robbery in the area
So - what was it? Where is the 'loot' in the armed robbery? Right? Why did the Wilson tell him to basically get back on the sidewalk? Right? Where is the gun? It's got to be somewhere. Right?
Why didn't he draw his weapon, read him his rights, and slap the cuffs on him? Right?
