Jay Nixon not ready to call special prosecutor
Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon isn't ready to ask that St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney Robert McCulloch step aside so a special prosecutor can lead the investigation into the death of Michael Brown.
"You have a democratically elected prosecutor," Nixon said in an exclusive interview with the Post-Dispatch today.
Nixon added that he would appoint a special prosecutor "if Bob feels, for a myriad of reasons, that he and his office should step aside. . . . There are clearly a lot of folks calling for that."
McCulloch has drawn criticism from some who say his strong law enforcement connections, and comments he's made since the unarmed Brown was killed by a police officer Aug. 9, raise questions as to whether McCulloch will be able to investigate the shooting without bias against Brown.
