Many Americans Believe The Police Have Gone Too Far In Ferguson

http://www.businessinsider.com/poll-americans-disagree-police-response-ferguson-2014-8

Police officers keep watch while demonstrators (not pictured) protest the death of black teenager Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri August 12, 2014. Police said Brown, 18, was shot in a struggle with a gun in a police car but have not said why Brown was in the car. At least one shot was fired during the struggle and then the officer fired more shots before leaving the car, police said. But a witness to the shooting interviewed on local media has said that Brown had been putting his hands up to surrender when he was killed. The FBI has opened a civil rights investigation into the racially charged case and St. Louis County also is investigating.

WASHINGTON — The police response to street protests in Ferguson, Mo., has been too extreme, a plurality of Americans says in a newly released poll.
Some 40 percent of all respondents said the police response “has gone too far,” according to the new Pew Research Center survey. Just 28 percent favored the view that the response has been “about right,” while the rest said they didn’t know enough to judge.

Blacks were much more likely than whites to say the militarized nature of the response to street unrest has gone too far. But even among whites alone, the “gone too far” view was supported by a plurality of 33 percent, versus 32 percent who said “about right.”

The survey was conducted Aug. 14-17, as the events in Ferguson have focused national attention on questions of race and justice, as well as on the so-called militarization of police.

I guess I should at least be pleased people are finally starting to wake up, but then again I'm old enough to remember when many thought Rodney King was the "wake-up call" and would be the turning point...

I'm curious to learn more about the Police Officers background though. A lot of Police Officers are former military. Was this one? Did he serve in any of the Wars? did he have untreated PTSD and snapped? Just questioning is all.

Law Enforcement is the biggest employer here in Virginia...and I bet 'the same goes for a number of States as well. That would be an interesting Study in and of itself.

I have a story to tell them. The magistrates in the State of Virginia issue arrests warrants based on the words of convincing liars (called a "sworn statement"&quot without a shred of probable cause to prove their bogus accusations. In essence, anybody with an axe too grind (ie. a vengeful ex, divorce, custody disputes, ANYBODY) can go down too the magistrate take out an arrest warrant
and you will be be arrested. Domestic abusers are turning too abusing the Justice System to exact revenge against their victims and getting away with it. Whatever it takes to keep the money flow''n and the wheels of ""Justice"" a turn'n.
