(36,470 posts)When the hubbub dies down he will be back on duty & his behavior validated, at least in his mind, cuz there were no consequences.
Is suspension with pay typical? Does it go on the record? These guys break all the rules & get a slap on the wrist - time off with pay & a note in your file. Big whoop.
on edit: I see below he was suspended without pay. I wonder who makes that decision & why some get pay & others don't. ???

(444 posts)is suspended indefinitely. But it is so the police officer does not actually have his record show that he was fired/terminated.

(7,234 posts)Why would they be giving a statement on the status of a St. Ann police officer?
Just a bit skeptical here.
I hope they don't mean he's been relieved of duty and suspended in Ferguson but is free to continue working in his home area of St Ann which is a different municipality.
Cops lie too damn much to take them at their word.

(53,339 posts)His uniform patch looks like St. Louis County PD, and it was the chief of that department who suspended him.

(7,234 posts)And looks Saint Ann Police was very open and honest about the situation and the reason for his suspension which is a surprise
From the Huffington Post:
Now they need to charge him with making criminal threats with a gun.

Nothing to see here, he was just using his rifle to "scan the area" and as for his threats to kill a reporter?
Well that was just a "poor choice of words".

(7,263 posts)No mention of that...this makes it sound like it was just a verbal altercation.
I guess if they admitted to the gun thing they would have to arrest him.
It's systemic - police cannot help lying to cover up for their sadistic twisted brothers in blue. At whatever cost. Until this behavior stops there is no such thing as a good policeman. Period.

Cops are never held accountable, it doesn't matter what they do.

(7,263 posts)This is fucking wrong.
Until the good ethical (mythical?) police:
1)step up and call out their sadistic twisted racist misogynist fascist brothers in blue and
2)hold them accountable and have them prosecuted
There are no good police officers.

(65,377 posts)He didn't just point his weapon at the protesters. He also shouted, "I will f***ing kill you!" and when the protester asked for his name, the cop screamed, "F*** off!"

(653 posts)I've been trying for a couple of days to get a copy of the code of ethics for Ferguson or St Louis county. Website links won't respond. Maybe under the circumstances, that's symbolic.
Here's one for Concoria, Missouri
http://concordiamo.com/?q=site-page/police-code-ethics
As a law enforcement officer, my fundamental duty is to serve the community; to safeguard lives and property; to protect the innocent against deception, the weak against oppression or intimidation, and the peaceful against violence or disorder; and to respect the constitutional rights of all to liberty, equality and justice.
I will keep my private life unsullied as an example to all and will behave in a manner that does not bring discredit to me or my agency. I will maintain courageous calm in the face of danger, scorn, or ridicule; develop self-restraint; and be constantly mindful of the welfare of others. Honest in thought and deed in both my personal and official life, I will be exemplary in obeying the law and the regulations of my department. Whatever I see or hear of a confidential nature or that is confided to me in my official capacity will be kept ever secret, unless revelation is necessary in the performance of my duty.
I will never act officiously or permit personal feelings, prejudices, political beliefs, aspirations, animosities or friendships to influence my decisions. With no compromise for crime and the relentless prosecution of criminals, I will enforce the law courteously and appropriately without fear or favor, malice or ill will, never employing unnecessary force or violence and never accepting gratuities.
I recognize the badge of my office as a symbol of public faith, and I accept it as a public trust to be held so long as I am true to the ethics of the police service. I will never engage in acts of corruption of bribery, nor will I condone such acts by other police officers. I will cooperate with all legally authorized agencies and their representatives in the pursuit of justice.
I know that I alone am responsible for my own standard of professional performance and will take every reasonable opportunity to enhance and improve my level of knowledge and competence.
I will constantly strive to achieve these objectives and ideals, dedicating myself before God to my chosen profession . . .
In light of Mike Brown, Henry Davis, the massive number of warrants issued against blacks in Ferguson, media arrests and even this guy pointing his gun "I will f'in kill you", I thought reviewing the standards of behavior these officers are sworn to deliver and bolding a few phrases for emphasis might be of interest.

(7,263 posts)and turns out it will be a slap on the wrist - see post #12 above.
The St. Ann's chief didn't even mention the officer pointed a gun at a civilian in his statement only that the gun was pointed prior to the altercation....made it out to be a verbal altercation that he was being suspended for and being sent to Sensitivity Training.
F' it - I work for a regular business and we go to 'sensitivity training' on an annual basis....
PR move only. Very disheartening...again.
Seems the rot permeates all through the St Louis area LE agencies.

(502 posts)If this is how Officer "I will fucking kill you," behaves under color of authority while being filmed, how do you think he acts behind closed doors at home?
Thought experiment: Assuming he has them, how do you imagine he treats his wife and children?
Yeah. Exactly what I thought.
Thus, the cycle of violence continues.
PS. Wonder how his father treated him . . .
