The George W. Bush library. To go or not to go?

My USAF pilot training class is holding our 50th reunion in October in Dallas.
Most of my class mates are conservatives, many went career Air Force.
I guess that's to be expected.

Our Saturday activity is a tour of the dumbya liberry.
Double

At first I thought "Fuck that!"

On reflection I thought "OK, do it. See how they handle all the fuck ups of that dim witted twit. And report back to the gang at DU."
I will:
1. Bite my tongue.
2. Say nothing.
3. Just see and hear and go with the flow.

What say you?

itinerary included a visit to ANY presidential library, including Republican presidents, I would go. I am a history buff and especially like to point out errors of fact and bias wherever I can. (History textbooks are another example of finding errors and bias.)

You should hook Trof up with some excellent E-ticket fare.

And if this is mostly about a class reunion, I would definitely go.

So far, I've been to:

Nixon Library - Yorba Linda, CA (it's local, so what the heck. My folks wanted to see it).
Ronald Reagan - Simi Valley, CA (it's a few hours away -- again went with my folks who wanted to see it).
JFK Library - Boston, MA (went with my dad during a trip to New England).

The JFK Library is like hallowed ground. Seriously. I teared up several times for obvious reasons about his assasination, but also it reminds you of times and events in your own life -- that's why the Presidential libraries are so interesting and compelling to me.

We've been talking about a trip to New York to see FDR's library, but we haven't gotten around to that one yet. Both of us would like to see all the libraries eventually (I think there are 11? I'll have to Google it again). Can't wait to see FDRs! We also had to cancel a trip to Texas, but we had planned to see LBJ's in Austin and then maybe squeeze the Bush libraries in just for the experience.

They are educational and for me can be very sentimental, but not about that particular President --but about the world and our lives in general. Just my 2 cents.

Stay away.

Surprising that the university would lower itself to let that dump be built on it's campus in the first place.

It is nothing more than a dishonorable remembrance for a dishonorable man.

at his library before they were taken out of the display to be restored (or preserved -- whatever they were doing). It was really interesting. I hadn't heard them growing up and wasn't that interested in politics when he resigned, so it was interesting to me. Plus there are personal letters written, a lot of them handwritten, from dignitaries to other historical figures that are just plain interesting to me.

I can certainly understand the disgust factor, but I look it as a worldly experience -- to experience the life and times of a shared history.

have been a couple of times as a school field trip chaperone. In Ronnie's case, there's a bunch of movie posters and Nancy's dresses on display, so it's pretty tame. They gloss over all the shit he pulled. The place is crawling with old pasty Repuke men wearing white shoes and san-sa-belt polyester pants accompanied by wives in pastel leisure suits and helmet hair. The people watching is great, and, really, the best part.

As for the Chimp's "library," I'd just assume the whole thing is going to be a colossal whitewash and just kick back and take in the sheer awfulness of the experience. Better you than me!

Going to the training and having time to hang out with the class mates should be an opportunity to have some fun. Not everything has to be about politics, we all need a mental vacation. Let political talk go as much as you can and put the focus on having a good time.

I lived in Dallas for many years before I retired and moved to Oregon. A former colleague posted on FB that he and his out of town relatives were going to tour the library. I posted my reply - Are you going to see the war crimes room? Do that have have a torture exhibit? That might be too much for the kids. His wife posted back - You are not a nice man.

The idea of continuing with inspections and sanctions is never presented as a possibility.

My friend and I had to keep our voices down when we snickered at the bullshit, worried we would be kicked out.

The only interesting thing was a recreation of the Oval Office.

I say don't waste your time unless there is something really cool there.
