Al Qaeda considers it 'too militant'. A force that hardly had any leverage before.
So that in the name of defeating al Qaeda, we invaded a country that had nothing to do with all Qaeda, and now we've created an even worse force in a strategically far more important and sensitive area of the world" - Robert Scheer
Let's not do it again by prolonging our engagement further.

(62,325 posts)He is correct of course. Everything that is happening in the ME now is a direct result of the neocon policies of invading their countries and turning the 'entire ME into a parking lot', or whatever that quote was.
We killed over a million people in Iraq alone, tortured and imprisoned who knows how many more, raped and sodomized women and children.
Now we act SHOCKED that our puppet government in Iraq, which has completely alienated a whole segment of the population for years, ordering the shooting and killing of peaceful protesters there, his US Trained police, torturing people etc, has created so much anger that extremists have been able to thrive there.
Four million Iraqis were driven out of their country years ago, into Jordan and Syria where they had to live in refugee camps, and still do.
Now we are going back?? To do what? Didn't people WARN against going into that war?
Here's what WE need to do. Arrest and try the War Mongers who started all of this.

(33,688 posts)The US midwifed Al Qaeda by way of Raygun's supporting the Afghan mujaheddin. Chimpy and Darth's "adventure" in Iraq is directly responsible for ISIL.

(53,410 posts)people have money and profit to make. Get out of the way.
And as long as we keep blaming the wrong factions and people, or ourselves, the few are laughing all the way to the bank. Cause not only do they make oil profits, but they also make arms profits and military equipment profits. Organizations like Blackwater make money hand over fist 'protecting' them too.
