Ted Nugent Says Liberal Welfare Programs Caused Micheal Brown’s Death

The dangerous myths being put out by this washed-up rocker are far more dangerous than they may first seem. In his article for World Net Daily Nugent posits nearly every racist, ignorant, unfounded thought that has echoed from the conservative media. While the radical right likes to point out the rampant violence within the impoverished areas that are predominantly lived in by African-Americans such as parts of Chicago, they never mention the gross inequality that exists in the region. In his opinion piece Nugent says,


“The underlying reason for 70 percent of black youth being raised in single-parent households is the 50-year war on blacks by our federal government that has constantly perpetuated abandonment of personal responsibility. The problem has gotten much worse after spending over $16 trillion since 1965 on so-called poverty programs. What this maniacal spending has accomplished has been a travesty, a crime against humanity. Liberal welfare programs have destroyed black communities, black families and far too many young black guys who are either in prison or an early grave.”

Nugent never once entertains the thought that gross income inequality is something that existed before welfare programs. While It is very disappointing that Mr. Nugent has decided to skip over centuries of racist structural inequalities that have been a staple of the United States before it even began I do have to agree with him to an agree. There actually has been a, “50-year war on blacks by our federal government,” that war has come in the form of the eradication of anti-poverty programs and the creation of the racist war on drugs.

As a kid growing up in the 70's, my mom was a single parent with three kids in tow. We were on welfare until I was in 9th grade. We were in low income housing from 6th grade on. The government paid for tubes in my ears (I was losing my hearing) and braces on my teeth (they thought they may fall out in my adult years because to were so tight).

Oh, only difference is that we are white and lived in Iowa....PIG
