Fear and loathing in Fergusson, citizen fear/police loathing of citizens
Is the primary difference between the Fergusson police dept and Issis the fact that Fergusson police don't like their activities video recorded? This may be an inappropriate comparison, but when, if you are African-American and going out your front door you don't have a reasonable expectation of surviving an encounter with your local police force due to your racial identity, what does that make the police force. If all Black teen angers have to listen to their parents warn them of the dangers inherent with law enforcement contact, what does that make the enforcers of law? Police officers take an oath to uphold the the law, all of the law, not just that which they approve of or find expedient at any one moment. The law is not designed to create a feeling of terror in the general populace, and the police officers patrolling our streets should not be acquiring the appearance that they are and unaccountable army of occupying troops. Issis extremists wear masks and combat type weapons as they swarm through neighborhoods in Iraq and Syria. Fergusson police troops wore masks and flaunted military style weapons as they swarmed about in Fergusson. To further the aspect of military style action in Furgusson the police removed their name tags so that they could not be identified when engaged in their search and destroy style sweeps through the streets of Fergusson. Soldiers, especially officers, often remove or conceal their rank insignia in combat to avoid being identified and targeted.
What kind of police department do you have? Any chance that when you walk out your front door you are a bit concerned about any form of police contact? Are you white and think that there is no chance your police dept will treat you with anything but the utmost respect and consideration? What is and has been happening to African-Americans could never be visited upon you, could it?
