Ottawa Police Shoot Unarmed Teen 16 Times While Family Begs Them Not To
By Matt Agorist on August 25, 201

Ottawa police were called about 7:50 p.m. Saturday to Orscheln Farm and Home at 2008 S. Princeton St. on a report of a person reportedly armed with a gun.

However, the family of deceased 18-year-old Joseph Jennings, said there was no gun. Ottawa Police have not confirmed that Jennings was armed either.

Ottawa Police Chief, Dennis Butler, said the officers did what they were trained to do. ”They reacted based upon the training that they’ve been given from the academy,” Butler said. “We were thankful that no officer was injured from protecting themselves from risk of great bodily harm.”

Jennings was described as a “really good boy” by family members. But he also suffered from depression, anxiety, and had horrible seizures which led to him becoming suicidal.

-----

Only 3 hours after leaving the hospital Jennings walked to Orschein Farm & Home. Smith said he was there on a suicide mission and when she saw how officers were handling the situation she immediately tried to intervene. ”I told them it is Joseph Jennings. He is suicidal. He is upset, don’t shoot him,” she said.

Smith’s husband also tried to stop the police from shooting him, but he was told to stop or he would be shot too.

reacted according to the training they received in the 'Academy'? 'Shoot first, no questions asked'? We know now that our law enforcement training is often done overseas, where they train with FOREIGN MILITARY, like the IDF.

How that came to be is beyond me. We HAVE a military. And supposedly we HAVE a civilian police force. We don't need TWO Armies. The American people are apparently now the enemy also.

This has to change or in a few years it will be too late, if it isn't already.

RIP to yet another American citizen killed by those we pay for protection! How many more?

a pretty small town, where grass growing is the most exciting thing happening. It makes Mayberry look like NYC. I used to have fond memories of the place. No more.

I agree it's time to appraise the training and remove the military weapons. It would also help giving cops psychology tests to see if they have discrimination issues.

And it seems it is almost impossible to fire a bad cop...not until they kill someone.

The victim's foster father, William Bruton, said Jennings told him he was heading to Walmart Saturday night.
"He was walking back and they said that they had a complaint and stuff on him out here making a scene," Bruton said.

"As I was looking, they kept getting closer. They pulled the guns out. They kept getting closer and closer. You could hear them tell him to, 'Get down, get down,'" said witness Houston Harris.

"By the time I got to my son, he maneuvered away from me," said Bruton. "He went up toward the cop, he done something with his hand and about 15 to 16 cops shot rounds off on him, in his chest, his legs, everything."

the entire town has 12,650 people and that has to include a bunch of old folks just sitting on the porch and a bunch of kids in diapers.

What are the town council and whatnot expecting?

Who pays for this shit and what are their taxes like? Jeeez, it's KANSAS FOR GAUDS SAKE.

The article says it was two officers and that apparently there were 16-18 shots between them. It's still confusing though because the aunt says the first three shots were with "the bags". I have no idea what that's supposed to mean... rubber bullets?

The article also doesn't say what happened, and neither did the aunt in the video (or anyone else in the video)... only that there was some sort of confrontation between the guy and the police. The police are only not commenting on whether or not the guy was armed because of the ongoing investigation. The aunt said at the end of ther video that she didn't see him with a gun, but that doesn't mean he didn't have one, and considering how frantic she was that he was on a "suicide mission" and that she and whatever other family was there could "stop him" it sounds like he had a weapon.

Could be suicide by cop, who knows. There's just no information really at all about what happened.

He'd just been discharged from the hospital after having tried to commit suicide by taking pills. He wasn't in the hospital anymore when whatever happened with the police occurred.

The family (at least the aunt) is pretty contradictory. She says he was on a "suicide mission" and calls the police but when whatever happened took place her and some other family member beg the police not to shoot and that for some reason they think they can deal with it themselves. She says she didn't see him with a gun, but then what was her fear that he was on a "suicide mission" and why call the cops? And why this other family member told to get away by the police was going to tackle the guy? I don't know, sounds to me that he was waving a gun around.
