Joan Rivers in critical condition after cardiac arrest during surgery

8:49 AM PT -- The NYPD tells us ... Joan is currently in critical condition.

We're told ... at one point, Joan's heart stopped beating.

It's unclear if doctors were able to restart the comic's heart.

8:15 AM PT -- We're told an emergency call was placed to 911 at 9:39 AM ET and the caller said, "We have somebody in either cardiac or respiratory arrest."

Usually at the expense of Chevy Chase and Steve Gutenberg.

When it was reported that Doug Kenney fell (or jumped) off a cliff in Hawaii, MO'D quickly asked, "Was he shaking hands with Chevy Chase at the time?"

If you are going to criticize someone for spelling the word (BTW you are wrong it is spelled KARMA) perhaps you should learn what the word actually means and not what people think it means.

kar·ma
ˈkärmə/
(in Hinduism and Buddhism) the sum of a person's actions in this and previous states of existence, viewed as deciding their fate in future existences.

So if she dies she will be born into a lower caste but otherwise her karma has no effect on this life.

The word you are thinking of is DHARMA and that is a whole other thing.

I think she is a sick mean person who is well past her sell by date. I too do not care what happens to her but for the reading impaired, it does not mean I wish her dead. I do not and neither do you. Not caring means just that.

However, at her age, all surgery should be done in a hospital. Too much that can go wrong if you are in a clinic. Nothing wrong with clinics, but better to be safer at her age.

By the time an ambulance arrives, it may be too late. Cardiac arrest during surgery is a common risk.

One of the first things you still do however is call for an ambulance because no matter how good your clinic may be and how much you can do for them immediately...you're not a hospital and you don't have the same resources or tools available that they have in the ICU.

Revive, stabilize, transport is best case scenario. Worst case, you do as much as you can (defibrillation, rescue breathing, CPR, chest compressions) until you can get them transported to better resources where more can be done. Even if you've exhausted all options, it's better for a lot of reasons for them to be declared in the ER including transplant viability, ability for them to be manually kept alive until loved ones can arrive, and ease of arrangements. (People that die in uncertain circumstance generally require an autopsy, people that die in the hospital don't usually if cause of death is known. This can mean release of the remains as much as 5 days earlier.)

better person for it. Everyone I know including me who had one did that and its all for the good. I would enjoy Fashion Police but for her vile comments. What a sorry acting person. There will be lots of back stage high fives in entertainment for this. I would hate to think after 81 years, this would be the result of my own personal tragedies, that people would feel good about it. Sad commentary about her life.

Some people get "crotchety" when they get old. It doesn't cancel out a lifetime of making people laugh. So she made fun of the Obamas--if she said GWB was gay and Laura a transsexual, I don't think people here would think she had sinned. The Palestinian thing was not funny (nor intended to be) but I wonder how my Jewish father would be if he were still alive (he'd be in his 80s now)...
