From my neighbor Marc's Facebook page - also a fellow Unitarian Universalist:
"I am very proud of my friend, Jose P. -- who just passed his citizenship exam and is now a U.S. citizen. Jose grew up in El Salvador and currently works at my church as a custodian. He is also a former competitive swimmer and has helped me learn a few things at the Wakefield pool. When I tutored him (he really didn't need much help) for the exam, I made him promise me that once he passed it he would help us all make this country a better place."

I'm sure Jose will help make the country a better place, so proud of your friend. Those tests are tough.

(23,156 posts)I love it when I meet, even in this way, a new citizen.
A few years ago a co-worker became a citizen during the few months we worked together.
And a few more years back I was in a grocery store, and the person in line in front of me said to the woman bagging the groceries, "I hear you've just become a citizen. We're lucky to have you here," which is probably the best thing I've ever heard anyone say to or about a new citizen.
