"Women should ask their husbands to explain Republican policies in words women can understand."That appears to be the GOP's approach to getting women to vote for them.

(31,464 posts)Seriously. I'd post this everywhere, but not without the source. Which I cannot remember. Maybe you can provide?
MineralMan
(146,317 posts)You may have heard of satire. You can attribute it to the famous "high-placed Republican Party spokesman." He says lots of quotable things.
Atman
(31,464 posts)I swear, one of them actually said this. I thought you were providing the quote. No harm, no foul. Don't get your panties in a wad.
MineralMan
(146,317 posts)That's good. Who said that? I'd like to attribute that quote...
Atman
(31,464 posts)But I think it's been used before. The quote, not the wadded panties.
MineralMan
(146,317 posts)Except that I never use that phrase. It's dismissive, borderline homophobic, and fairly clearly misogynistic. It's not a phrase that is part of my normal lexicon.
Atman
(31,464 posts)Really? I mean, REALLY? This is what DU has devolved into?
You make me sad.
MineralMan
(146,317 posts)As an atheist, that makes me sad. Besides, no deity worth its salt wears panties, anyhow. They're all about going commando under their flowing robes, you know. That's what I've learned from my extensive study of the Old Testament, anyhow. Nothing in there about God's undies, and if it were not so, you'd think it would be mentioned.
Atman
(31,464 posts)Note the lower-case "g" in god. It's just an expression.
seabeyond
(110,159 posts)note the lower case. it means something.
MineralMan
(146,317 posts)Like you, I use the lower case word when I'm speaking of gods in general, although I prefer deities. That's because the deity in the Old Testament has a real first and last name, God Almighty. When I refer to that mythical deity, I use proper capitalization, since it's a name, see.
Being an atheist is complicated sometimes. But God Almighty definitely goes commando, I'm certain.

(3,622 posts)and my post got hidden. I prefer to say "don't get your underwear in a wad" as not to offend the extremely sensitive politically correct members for DU. Some on DU have not sense of humor.

(110,159 posts)a woman. republican woman running for office maybe?
isnt this funny the way guys play?
MineralMan
(146,317 posts)How odd. In any case, I've very rarely worn panties, and then only during a fun role-reversal fantasy game with someone else. On a normal, day-to-day basis, I prefer boxer briefs, which rarely get into any sort of wad, except in the laundry hamper. Now, it seems I should feel insulted. Hmph!
seabeyond
(110,159 posts)ok. i just really really wanted to use some .... men. so many demand it of me. but... really? lottsa men. lol.
i do .... underwear. men have ruined the word panties for me, about the same way they have done with lesbian. and that is quite a quandary, cause lesbians worked had for the definition.
and wad, goes beyond merely bunched. we all kinda get why he chose wad, as opposed to twisted. you know. you are menstruating, you bad boy. meh. see what language does for me?
MineralMan
(146,317 posts)(irony intentional)
And as for menstruation....Ish!

(34,458 posts)The Congresswoman's remarks in July 2014 may be what you had in mind.
spooky3
(34,458 posts)"Republican men have been advised to bring policy down to a womans level because women do not really understand complicated things like pie charts or money. On Friday, July 11, a group of Republican women, mostly members of the RSC, the Republican Study Committee, met to discuss how the GOP can entice the support of more women voters. The RSC acknowledged that the Democrat narrative of the war on women has been largely successful. The Republicans seem to feel they need a way to combat this narrative and help women to see that the Grand Old Party serves their interests.
Most of the talk centered around reaching women on a more personal level; making an emotional connection. Rep. Diane Black of Tennessee offered, We have got to do a better job of [telling stories], whether its talking about social issues or whether its talking about the financial issues and the jobs and the economy. Kim Strassel of the Wall Street Journal, the panel moderator, and Rep. Kristi Noem of South Dakota agreed that the problem was not policy but messaging. We just dont do a very good job of talking about [GOP policies] sometimes, said Rep. Noem. Rep. Black added, Females will respond better if you can get a connection with a relationship."

(4,461 posts)... won't that likely cause women to NOT vote for republicans? Not a good strategy, I'm thinking.
MineralMan
(146,317 posts)Anything that brings out the Democratic vote is excellent.
Atman
(31,464 posts)That would be me. But apparently I'm a "dismissive, borderline homophobic, and fairly clearly misogynistic" DUer. Words you claim aren't in your lexicon, yet you used them to label me. Interesting.
Meanwhile, I'll continue to GOTV for Dems, while you decide how to label me to fit within your own pre-conceived image.
MineralMan
(146,317 posts)It's not you who are "dismissive, borderline homophobic, and fairly clearly misogynistic." It is the phrase "panties in a wad." the phrase is those things, as normally used. It is that phrase that is not in my lexicon. The other words are words I use whenever they are appropriate, but I can't remember using "panties in a wad."
I have not labeled you in any way, other than as a "noted DUer." Nor will I.

I've made here since 2008. (Corrected typo)
I was banned on Free Republic in 2006 for being an "anti-freeper." I left Darwin Central in 2008. So, you're talking about stuff I wrote at least six or eight years ago. Try searching for my posts here, which outnumber those ancient posts 3 to 1 at least.
I'm not going to replay those old Meta discussions on DU. That's not going to happen. Nor do I post racist or homophobic things here. That's because I'm not a racist or a homophobe.
You're welcome to show up and comment on posts I make, if that's your deal. I don't care. I'm not sure I see the point of it, though.

How pathetically transparent you are.
1968 ?
Wasn't that when you "drove across the USA to march with MLK?"
Again,I have to...
MineralMan
(146,317 posts)See my profile. My MLK Experience was in 1965. I did not March with him, and never claimed to. I heard him give his "How long? Not long" speech. I was near the back of the crowd.

(1,057 posts)How is it that you were so moved by the civil rights movement that you hopped in the VW and drove across country to participate, yet you're posting racist comments on darwin central in 2005?

Well, assholes, I have a doctorate and I'm damned proud of it, so they can just go to hell if they think they should explain stuff to me.
I can't remember when I did not know how to read.
But then they would say the same thing they say about black people with doctorates, like President Obama, J.D., and Neil deGrasse Tyson, Ph.D. They think black people only get doctorates as a result of affirmative action, like they didn't really study and earn the degree. They believe that doctoral degrees are handed out like Cracker Jack prizes to stupid blacks and stupid women.
Like they're qualified to judge. NOT.
