'Weird is not a crime,' Maureen McDonnell's lawyer says

http://m.timesdispatch.com/news/state-regional/virginia-politics/weird-is-not-a-crime-maureen-mcdonnell-s-lawyer-says/article_e04145fe-2f84-11e4-83df-0017a43b2370.html?mode=jqm

Even if the former first lady agreed to help Williams' company in exchange for gifts, she would be guilty of no crime, he said. "That's because Maureen McDonnell was a volunteer -- nothing more."

He said jurors can think it's tacky or unbecoming but "it's not a crime." He said jurors may see her interest in nutraceuticals as "weird" or her relationship and gifts from Williams, a married man,as inappropriate.

But, he said, "weird is not a crime."

Sorry the Times-Disgrace website (and DU) was giving me fits. Hard to believe this is possible but the T-D website is actually worse than the newspaper.

Burck told the jurors that the government wants them to believe that her relationship with Williams was a farce, that all of the play dates, the texts, the gifts were really for the governor.

That Maureen McDonnell was a "puppet" and the governor was the "puppet master pulling the strings."
