1. It would be, even if everything were more or less perfect in our police departments, a high stress

job. So yeah, I think that makes sense.

The fact that we know that things are pretty damn far from perfect only makes this more necessary.

8. Burnout is a big problem for cops

It would be nice to see which ones are burning out and help them cope before they snap and hurt somebody.

I'd like to see them tested for steroids, too. A lot of this is more than burnout, IMO.

If I'm sitting at my desk and a lighting fixture falls from the ceiling and injures me, I'd have to take a drug test.
If I get in ANY accident in a company vehicle, drug test.
If I get promoted, drug test.

Why the hell don't they drug test the police?

At least every 6 months. Likewise, I'd do the same for deployed soldiers.

Keeping people mentally healthy is easier than fixing the brain afterward.

What other job allows or even encourages you to beat the living shit out of anyone who angers or frustrates you in any way?

Where else can you express yourself in the most violent manner possible and walk away not only with no negative consequences, but oftentimes some kind of reward?

If I had just one chance to treat a cop the way they treat civilians, I would be mellow for the rest of my life.

Search YouTube for road rage and the results are just as impressive as they are for cop rage.
Sad that so many people from all walks of life find it impossible to play nicely with others.

13. They get periodic reviews. I'm aware of a federal cop who had his commission removed

recently due to mental problems. They guy was really quick to draw his gun and I had said it was only going to be a matter of time before he shot someone.

The federal cops have periodic background checks and seeing any kind of mental health professional is cause for further investigation. So they don't go see mental health professionals when stressed. This is certainly going to end badly from time to time.
