e was going to wear a white suit on Tuesday. White after Labor Day! His tailor will be brought in to testify before the Senate, hearings will be held. Even the people who made his socks will be hauled in before the special hearings. Then the impeachment hearings will begin. Just wait until the republicans get his exact measurements on the Senate record. Accusations of wearing lifts in his shoes, not wearing a flag pin. Oh, the headlines write themselves.

It's called austerity.

For example, Obama effectively just cut pay for government workers and the military after inflation:

Sun Aug 31, 2014, 11:21 AM

It's sound economic policy. Until the deficit is zeroed-out, debt reduction is severely hampered. And until the debt is brought down to a healthy level, federal spending is inordinately concentrated on servicing said debt. Accordingly, spending on domestic needs (infrastructure, welfare, et al.) is stymied, if not wholly reversed.

Republican policy is to wipe out debt, which is counter-productive. A manageable debt, reasonable interest rates, low inflation and full employment (4-5%) are the hallmarks of a strong economy. And Democratic policy.

Eliminating the deficit is non-partisan. How each party views the rationale, however, is what distinguishes the sides.

You need to also look at economic growth, comparing what he inherited and what now exists.

The goal (IMO) is to have deficit, as a percentage of GDP, smaller than the growth of GDP and to stabilize the economy so that we stay "right side up".

The other half of this equation is that President Obama inherited an economy that was shrinking at historic rates. It is now growing steadily.

P.S. Projections have the deficit down to around 2% by the time President Obama leaves office.
