5 Crazy Things Said About Homosexuality This Week

Supporters of gay rights have had a lot to cheer about in recent months, but make no mistake: there are still plenty of people trying to subvert the discourse with blatantly false information. In the past week alone, we’ve seen a number of prominent figures say some ludicrous things:

1. Gays Deserve Prison Labor

Michael Wilson, a popular YouTube preacher, is calling for Christians to stop accepting gay rights. “While Christians are becoming increasingly tolerant of homosexuals, homosexuals are becoming increasingly intolerant of us,” he said.

Because of this paranoia, Wilson is calling on his followers to write their legislators to recriminalize being gay. We’re not talking about a slap on the wrist either: according to Wilson’s outlined plan, “practicing” homosexuality would be considered a felony and punishable with a ten-year sentence of prison with hard labor. What century is this guy from, again?

2. Treat Homosexuality Like Diabetes

Ruben del Aguila Pandora, a man running for the mayor of Nueva Amazonia, Peru has a pretty lofty campaign promise: fewer gay people in the city. In fact, it’s his #1 priority if he takes office. Safety and unemployment are also on Pandoro’s list, but they rank second and third respectively.

To tackle this problem, he plans to treat homosexuality in a similar manner that doctors handle diabetes. He has stated his belief that being gay is due to a chemical imbalance, something that can be overcome by changing one’s diet and taking hormones. Good luck on that election, Pandora!
