What do you think of Rick Weiland dropping out of the race for Senate in South Dakota and endorsing

Larry Pressler.

I know Pressler is an (R) but he did endorse Obama twice and I would much rather have him in the Senate than Mike Rounds. Weiland is currently getting 28% according to this survey.

Mike Rounds (R) 39%

Rick Weiland (D) 28%

Larry Pressler (I) 25%.

I doubt a significant number of Wieland's supports would vote for Mike Rounds and Pressler did server in the Senate Previously until 1996.

There is a chance he would caucus with the Democrats.

Still, this is an intriguing prospect. I vote in South Dakota. I'll vote for Weiland, but if he drops out, I would vote for Pressler.

much better than Rounds. And that looks like what could happen if Weiland doesn't drop out. Apparently Weiland is too progressive for the the national Dems to get behind him...

Pressler was a fairly moderate Republican when in office. And as you mention he might caucus with the Dems like the independent Angus King from Maine does.

In an interview from January of this year with Bill Press he says he would only run for one term so he isn't beholden to anyone. Wants to close some overseas military bases. Says the Republican party basically left him and many times have larger deficits than the Dems. He's very pro civil rights. Against corporate subsidies and excessive military spending.

Here's the interview with Bill Press for those that are curious:

backward as they come. Religious groups have a major grip on state politics and if you are a Progressive leaning candidate, they brand you as a anti religion or pro abortion and a Socialist. Pressler is a real piece of work, talk about a guy who has a ton of skeletons in his closet. Way to go SoDaker's,you are going to fall even further down the economic ladder, keep it up.
