The judge’s order prompted a state Democratic leader to call for Heidemann’s resignation.

Vince Powers, chairman of the Nebraska Democratic Party, said what Heidemann did was much more serious than “a lonely guy making phone calls to women.” That was a reference to Sheehy, who abruptly resigned in February 2013 after The World Herald revealed that he had made hundreds of calls on a state cellphone to women other than his wife.

Heineman, who said at the time that politicians must adhere to a “higher standard,” later picked Heidemann as Sheehy’s replacement.
