Emma Watson Faces Backlash After Gender Equality SpeechBy Lisa Respers France
CNN
ATLANTA, Georgia (CNN) Emma Watson is experiencing the ugly side of advocacy. According to reports, Watson's recent impassioned speech for gender equality at the United Nations has drawn backlash, including a threat to leak alleged nude photos of the star.
Business Insider reports that a 4chan user posted a countdown which hinted that the "Harry Potter" actress could become the next star to have their iCloud hacked and personal photos dispersed for the world to see.

Watson's speech, delivered as part of her role as goodwill ambassador for U.N. Women, drew a great deal of attention for her poignant remarks about the need for equality and for men to embrace feminism.
"If men don't have to be aggressive in order to be accepted, women won't feel compelled to be submissive," she said. "If men don't have to control, women won't have to be controlled. Both men and women should feel free to be sensitive. Both men and women should feel free to be strong. ... It is time that we all perceive gender on a spectrum, not as two opposing sets of ideals."

Not on the same subject here, but the point still applies. Jon Stewart, referring to a climate scientist testifying before the House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology as Sisyphus - "pushing a million pounds of idiot up a mountain."

(5,122 posts)I never thought much about her until I heard her speech and gained some instant respect. It was well thought out and well delivered. You could see she was nervous and that made it even more real.
There are a few great celebrities that try to do something with their fame but not nearly enough.
The most poignant thing she said, in my opinion and paraphrased, was that she made it because the people around her supported her as a person with the same rights as everyone deserves.
Shows how we can do our part with the people who are around us everyday.

(18,634 posts)The hackers released a check list of all the celebrities with the celebs that have already been release checked off.
About half of the celebs have been checked so there are lot that haven't been released yet but Emma Watson isn't on the list so I'm sure the threat is fake.
Someone just wants attention.
If they release anything it will be the same photoshopped photos that have been littering the internet for years now.
