Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsWe are bombing a city in Syria?
A city that is older than the US?
A city with people whose families have been living there longer than Europeans have been living in the Americas?
Not bombing armed camps, or supply lines of an army that is equipped with weapons we left there after we pulled out of Iraq. No, we are bombing a city with thousands of innocent human beings.
And there are people sitting there at their computers posting on DU supporting this new bombing campaign?
I am having a hard time believing this bs.

(62,325 posts)This is humanity's history, not just the people who live there. There are International Laws to protect ancient artifacts from the effects of war.
But as we know, there is no law that cannot and will not be broken anymore.

It appears that dozens of aircraft were used and that the Isis targets were hit by aircraft from M.E. countries.
I suspect many of us haven't quite absorbed what is occurring and have not fully formulated opinions on this. It a very complex issue and these groups have been demonstrably terrorizing the region and are calling for violent acts to be performed in other countries.

(13,685 posts)We actually have DUers, as you say: "...calling for violent acts to be performed in other countries."

(15,265 posts)So if you are framing this as such, if the choices were to let groups like Isis and khorasan continue to operate with impunity in the region and plot and encourage acts of terrorists in Europe or the U.S., or take the type of action that was taken today, I will go with the later option.

Lets assume that to be true. If such an attack were to be carried out on US soil, Barack Obama would be lynched the very next day.
and this sort of attack would sink a Clinton candidacy.....as in October suprise

When have any lives mattered other than our own?
Loot, plunder and kill anything in the way - it's what Westerners do best - ask the Native Americans, ask the African slaves, ask the Aborigines of Australia. We take what we want and invent a narrative for the gullible.
I am not having a hard time believing this - we've been doing it for millennia - just one more version of the Crusades.

(7,234 posts)They were never interested in bringing freedom, peace or to get the oil, they came to slaughter the indigenous population and to expand their empire like they did over 200 years ago in the Americas except this time they have these hired ISIS mercenaries helping them continue the slaughter.
The "founding fathers" would be proud of the mass genocide the military industrial complex was able to accomplish in just a few years against the indigenous people in the middle east using these for hire ISIS mercenaries.
The plan has always been to supply them with training, weapons and money then set them loose to destabilize countries and slaughter millions for a few years then come in with tanks, drones and bombs to finish off whats left while making an insane profit from the weapons and conquered land.
So yeah, its no surprise that they're bombing the shit out of civilian targets.
Are they?

(42,714 posts)assume widespread destruction of "civilian" targets and widespread "civilian" deaths.
One gets the feeling that some folks here assume, without any knowledge, that each Tomahawk missile fired will take out an entire city block. In fact, the blast area of the Tomahawks being used is actually fairly limited, which is why they are used to target specific vehicles and structures.
So far there is no evidence of the widespread civilian casualties that some here are absolutely certain are occurring.
Not a popular position to take, so fire away.

(10,362 posts)The whole thing is enough to make one disillusioned with politics. At war for 13 years and all we have to show is two puppet governments unable to defend themselves, so we're back to where we started: bombs as a remedy for ethnic/religious conflict. Conflict we're largely responsible for starting because we supported a civil war in Syria and the overthrow of Saddam.

(94,595 posts)...first the Syrian Government has pretty much done that already. Second, there's plenty of isolated land around Aleppo (I've been there) where IS can have set up shop.
Out of curiosity, what do you consider an acceptable military tactic against a group like ISIS?
cali
(114,904 posts)that a bombing campaign was coming, is just sitting around on "isolated land around Aleppo" waiting to be bombed? Don't you think it more likely that ISIS is integrating itself as much as it can with the civilian population?

(94,595 posts)Unless you're of the opinion that President Obama is equally deserving of war crimes charges, you should be prepared to assume he's more concerned about the impact of military strikes under his watch than Bush was.
