The White Star line said they would only return his body to England if the family paid for the shipping (the family could not afford it). Then his family got a bill for the loss of his uniform.

White star fired all surviving employees, by cable to their New York office, as the ship sank. Upon arriving in New York, survivors found they had no jobs and no way to return home.
