Alison Grimes tells 'Nuns on the Bus' she would 'take them any day over the Koch brothers'

http://www.kentucky.com/2014/10/02/3459493_alison-grimes-tells-nuns-on-the.html?sp=/99/322/&rh=1

<snip>

When asked if she was concerned about McConnell's ads that state "Obama needs Grimes," she said that "Kentuckians know that I'm an independent thinker that stands for putting the people of Kentucky, instead of the partisan politics, first."

"I think Kentuckians have seen my record as one that's been putting them first," Grimes said.

With 2012 Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney appearing at a fundraiser for McConnell in Lexington Thursday night, Grimes said it was "ironic" that McConnell "would welcome a man here in Kentucky who thinks 47 percent of the population doesn't matter."

But when the Boston Globe asked Grimes if she regretted being a convention delegate for Obama, she demurred.

"My record speaks for itself," Grimes said. "I'm a Clinton Democrat through and through."

1. What should we think of an Independent Democrat like Alison Grimes?

Even though she is keeping her distance from the President out of necessity moreso than anything else.

Is there a future for Independent Democrats?

Because he's black. These are Kentuckians after all. Why else would you leave out the President who allowed their Medicaid system to work so well. These are the same idiots that have no idea it's Obamacare.

3. I think it's important for politicians like Alison Grimes to speak out against this kind of racism

even if it will cost them an election.

It's really not fair to black people when these things go unchallenged.

Blacks are humans too. Everyone is supposed to be treated equally.

Some people get in it to win it.

Alison Grimes is not a racist. She has not taken any votes or said anything to suggest that she is? She believes she could do more for racial equality if she was sitting in the Senate seat now occupied by Mr. "Cement", Mitch McConnell.

I do not doubt that there is a certain amount of racism but that is not the only reason voters in Kentucky have turned against Barack Obama.

Coal mining is the life blood of many people in Eastern Kentucky. Due to other reasons other than Barack Obama, such as the flood of oil into the market from North Dakota plus the advent of windmills and solar, the market for coal has shrunk. Also, with more efficient technology, such as can take off a mountain top in a short amount of time, many miners have lost their jobs. President Obama announces that there are going to be new carbon limits and the miners see that as the reason they are losing their jobs. Once the mine owners and Republicans get control of the propaganda machine, coal becomes a very important issue in the upcoming election.

I would suggest that we not paint the entire state of Kentucky as "racist". And, more specifically, what issues are going "unchallenged"? Perhaps we should constrain the labels, at least until after the election?

I'm sorry but sitting back and saying nothing about it is unacceptable

Young black children are growing up in a country where they are and will be discriminated against because of their skin color and the people who claim to fight for them aren't speaking out.

What kind of a message is that?

That's unacceptable.

But it's just frustrating when you see these poor people taking advantage of their NEW healthcare, and still vote for the GOP. And that goes for every state. Kentucky is full on RED and proud. I hope Allison beats the crap out of McTurtle. I think she can win, and she should use Obama and relate to these people that without him, they wouldn't have healthcare.

And it can still be done. Maybe she saving it for just a couple of days before the election? That would be a gamble, I would think?

I want her to beat McChinless, but I can't say I'm really enthused about her.

for posting this. Kentucky is lucky indeed to have her.

Nothing for McConnell to gloat about except working and drawing a paycheck and benefits (thanks to taxpayers) while doing absolutely nothing in return, but block any and all action, the entitlement mind frame he has is mind boggling. I guess he forgets the whole point of serving in office. Hell, of course he supports Mitt bashing 47%, he thinks 99% of the population doesn't matter.

and hoping for far better than what we have. Isn't that what all of this is really about? Isn't that what makes anyone a thinking person, striving for better?

If I wasn't convinced before, I am now.

I believe it is our patriotic duty to criticize even within our own party and always strive for what is in our country's, and we the people's, best interest. Something the GOP has never learned & hasn't the faintest clue about.

To hell with the naysayers, real change comes from rocking the boat and holding their feet to the fire.
