Federal judge orders videos of Guantanamo force-feedings unsealed
A federal judge has ordered the Obama administration to release videos of a Guantanamo Bay prisoner being force-fed..
U.S. District Judge Gladys Kessler issued an order Friday that requires the federal government to release the 28 videos to the public and more than a dozen news outlets that sued to obtain them...
...The case centers around Abu Wael Dhiab, also known as Jihad Ahmed Mujstafa Diyab, a Syrian citizen who has been at Guantanamo since 2002. Dhiab has been on a long-term hunger strike, according to court records.
The government began force-feeding him through his nose starting in April 2013, court documents say, and has continued to do so. Dhiab and several other prisoners have sued to try to stop the force-feedings....

(45,251 posts)Others, however, may be taking that thought a lot more seriously. It has to have occurred to them.
Nothing better than a judge who does his or her job for the public without regard to partisan politics.

(357 posts)What the UN has to say because they have declared that forced feeding is a war crime, and someone in our government ordered that procedure.
Wouldn't want those responsible frogmarched to the Hague or anything.

(45,251 posts)Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment (commonly known as the United Nations Convention against Torture).
Passing that, we've always been party to the Constitution of the United States.
Our treatment of prisoners at Gitmo probably violates most of the Bill of Rights, with the exception of the one that reserves exclusively to the states whatever the Constitution did not grant the federal government.
And then, there's Chelsea Manning.
