Ugh. Major arrogance: Israeli leader: White House criticism un-American

Nothing like a foreign head of state thinking he can define American values better than the President. Totally disrespectful and completely unacceptable.

Israeli leader: White House criticism un-American

-- Israel's prime minister dismissed a recent White House rebuke of Israeli settlement construction, saying in comments broadcast on Sunday that the criticism goes "against American values."

The tough words by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu threatened to deepen a rift with the White House over Israeli construction in the West Bank and east Jerusalem, areas captured by Israel in the 1967 Mideast war and claimed by the Palestinians as parts of a future independent state.

Israel came under fire last week after a Jerusalem city official signed the final go-ahead for construction of a new housing development in east Jerusalem. A day earlier, an ultranationalist Jewish group said dozens of settlers would move into six apartment buildings purchased in the heart of a predominantly Arab neighborhood of east Jerusalem.

Israel says east Jerusalem is part of its capital and considers Jewish housing developments there to be neighborhoods of the city. But the international community, including the United States, does not recognize Israel's annexation of the area and considers construction there to be illegitimate settlement activity.

Back in the days when we still celebrated Manifest Destiny and considered the triumph of cavalry and cowboy over 'injuns' right and proper supplanting of savages, he might have been right, but those days are long gone....

reap the backlash. They won't listen to us, or the rest of the world. They don't want peace, they don't want to compromise, so let them endure whatever turmoil results. I do think we should help defend them from other countries that threaten them (Iran), but in internal matters within their borders, I no longer give a damn.

But then I've been told the same for my disgust at Fattah al-Sisi's slaughters, and Narendra Modi's homophobia and religious fundamentalism.

Weird how support for human rights is called anti-Democratic by certain people.

Reducing our 3 billion dollar annual payoff by the amount that Israelis spend colonizing inside the green line would tie the two together with a policy that would be a direct cost for this behavior. Simple step that will never happen, cuz talk is easy.

Washington does nothing out of altruism, at least not with such a steep price tag, both monetarily and in alienating other countries in that neighborhood.
