While some states are saving and making money by regulating marijuana sales, Georgia is sending helicopters around their state to seize people's okra plants at gunpoint.

Dwayne Perry of Cartersville tells WSB-TV that he was awakened by a helicopter flying low over his house Wednesday and then some heavily-armed deputies and a K-9 unit showed up at his door. They were from the Governor's Task Force for drug suppression and they were out looking for marijuana plants.
What they had seen, apparently, were Perry's okra plants and a shrub at the end of his house.
Perry says the officers ended up apologizing to him.
Patrol Capt. Kermit Stokes says the plants did have characteristics similar to marijuana.

(11,804 posts)I hate Okra - mostly from eating breaded fried Okra at a chain restaurant I worked at that I won't name (and as far as I know no longer exists).
Gumbo is pretty good though. And I suppose Okra is tied to Gumbo.
Damn those moral conundrums.

(11,138 posts)A. I don't know. I'm a fast cook I guess.
Q. I'm sorry, I was all the way over here, I couldn't here you. Are we to believe that boiling water soaks into a grit faster in your kitchen than in anyplace on the face of the earth?
A. I don't know.
Q. Perhaps the laws of physics cease to exist on your stove? Were these magic grits? Did you buy from the same guy who sold Jack his beanstalk beans?

(2,273 posts)Sounds like bad police work to me, seriously maybe since these plants were out in the open they should have sent an officer over and just look at them before doing a full scale raid.

(5,213 posts)About 25 okra plants growing in the garden right now. Yields enough for a meal every two days. Screw battered and fried-- sauteed with olive oil, a little salt, and a little bit of dill. Mmmmmm.
Never tried drying the leaves and smoking them however.
