Hey Dr. Ben Carson – Will You Shut Up Already?!

September 30, 2014
by Madison Kimrey

Ben Carson is, “a little shocked, quite frankly, looking at the Advanced Placement course in American History that’s being taught in high schools across this country right now.”

-snip-

He doesn’t like that there’s “a whole section on slavery and how evil we are. A whole section on Japanese internment camps and how we slaughtered millions of Japanese with our bombs. A whole section on how we wiped out American Indians with no mercy.”

who's on the "I'm inside so shut the fucking door" bandwagon.

I know a lot of people like this, it was OK when they needed the assistance but now they're on the 'paying in' instead of 'paying out' side of things so they don't like it anymore.

the latter trumping the former wherever conflicts occur. He knows the universe is only 6000 years old. No problem. Psychologists are familiar with the mindset.

Almost certainly the dissonance in these self-serving statements simply doesn't exist for him. After all, he's proved his own moral worth by his worldly success. He has no relation to the Undeserving Poor. His type of conservative understands that very well, even if we do not

Even before he came out as a wingnut, his life story always disturbed me. Wingnuts never seem to get just how much sheer, dumb luck plays a part in their success or how often bad luck contributes to failure. The Maryland State Pen, two blocks from where he practices, is filled with guys who did the same thing he did.

The knife hit a belt buckle instead of the guy's gut. He had had other violent incidents in his past, like giving a guy a three inch gash in the head with a combination lock and breaking another kid's glasses and nose with a rock, but he describes the attempted stabbing (over a fight over the radio station they were listening to) as his "come to Jesus" moment. He tells this story proudly as if this makes him extra-special for overcoming his "temper." I have never, ever heard him tell this story as an example of how incredibly lucky he was not to end up like so many other Baltimore black males, serving time at the State Penn.

"Anyone could do what I did if they just tried hard enough..."

Sad, he doesn't realize he is one of the few life lottery winners compared to the 30% - 40% of Americans that grew up with pretty much same opportunities in life in life he did.

The majority of his peers are still pretty much just working as hard as they can to get by, and taking what little pleasure they can afford when they can - they will never be celebrity neurosurgeons with political ambitions because they didn't have that one lucky "right place at the right time with the right people" break.

So as much of a loathsome creep as he is, he is still partially correct.

Too bad Democrats can't figure that out.

You are not addressing the real point of the post. The point of the post is that Dr. Ben Carson claims that the failure of the black family is due to social programs. However, Carson used just about every social program available and turned out to be a success. In addition, anyone can ask what would have happened to Dr. Carson if all those social programs had not been around.

From what I know of Dr. Carson's life story, his mom was not able to get a really good job. It seems she did not have the knowledge and skills to get a job that would have allowed her to provide for her family without government assistance. So what should have been done for her? Should she have not been provided with a way to assure she and her children had food to eat and a place to live, or with a way for her children to get good educations so they could get better jobs than their mother?

Furthermore, Democrats have always known that people would love to have decent jobs. It is the Democrats who have for years been trying to get better jobs and better pay for workers. It seems s the Democrats who are constantly seeking to provide more money for people to be able to afford to go to college, or to gain additional skills that will allow them to get better jobs.

I do know my husband knew him (Carson) a little from when he (husband) worked at Johns Hopkins as a neurological technician and was not impressed at all. Husband said there was another black pediatric neurosurgeon at JHH who was much better, both as a doctor and as a human being, than ol' Ben.

But the short story is this: Comedy Central offered him like a crazy $50 million offer for three more seasons which was completely unprecedented at the time. But the contract stipulation was that they wanted way too much control of his show. Dave originally created the show based on the premise that no one was watching, and that Comedy Central didn't care what he broadcasted. But now with too much on the line, and Comedy Central wanting way too much control of Chappelle's Show, Dave went crazy and fled to South Africa which delayed production to the point where Comedy Central cancelled the show.
