ReRe
(10,597 posts)I think we should enact a law requiring citizen's, age 18 and up, to vote every 2 years in the national elections. Just like we have to file our income taxes every year and have to participate in the Census every 10 years.

(10,597 posts)No more voter suppression or disenfranchisement, and if anyone is caught trying it, they are thrown in jail for some odd yrs, made to perform slave labor on pocket booklets of The Constitution.

Why thank you but I think there are a couple that are far more interesting. I was having a hard time trying to think up something I could remember when I first signed up.

(13,986 posts)Since turnout is lower and information is less available, candidates and other ballot items get loaded onto off-year ballots.
MNBrewer
(8,462 posts)Or House and Senate and State races?
riqster
(13,986 posts)Then factor in the lower participation by Dems in off-year elections, cross-check it with Repub gains in same, and you get the answer.

(21,132 posts)The argument was the elections have a bigger impact on everyday life.
riqster
(13,986 posts)But that doesn't make the elections more important.
Given a choice would it be better to skip the presidential elections and only vote in the midterms? Of course not.
MNBrewer
(8,462 posts)equally important is how I would categorize them. Every election is important! Always vote!

(21,132 posts)I would argue they are as close to important, but to say they are more important implies the presidential choice is a net negative for impact.
riqster
(13,986 posts)The man in the image didn't say that.
Gore1FL
(21,132 posts)Midterms are more important than Presidential elections is simply false based on the impact.
It's as important to vote in all of them. Less things to vote on doesn't make it more important.
