True, once they learn the truth, without the oath, they could turn back.
Loyalty oaths may also be manipulative tools used to take advantage of good people.

Not all of us are up to speed given the current climate where the attacks come from all sides from folks we've been here with for many years that often blindside us.

And..yes...times are tough right now...and we are working to keep the Senate...and all of us who care are on top of this... But...your post seemed to discount that.

Who's asking for one? I think she handled this poorly, but that's no where near the same thing. I criticize the president all the time. But she looked timid and disingenuous in dealing with distancing herself from the President. Voters forgive a lot- weakness and perceived pandering they will not. The worst thing a politician can do is "appear" inauthentic. They all probably are to some extent, but when it comes across that way, when the label sticks, it's hard to undo.

"I'll vote the lesser of two evils." "I'll vote my conscience in the primary and for the nominee in the general."

These, and others, are all various forms of loyalty oaths. So when someone says "we don't do loyalty oaths," I can't help but laugh.

How can someone run against Obama? As farcas I know, he is not running for anything.

After VP HHH left the White House, he ran and won a seat in the U.S. Senate representing Minnesota. I could look it up, but I wonder if this happened before HHH. ?

They do like to infiltrate Democratic events to "get stuff" on the candidates or his/her supporters.

You can see examples of this in this report:

According to CNN, the new group, named America Rising, will be led by former Mitt Romney campaign manager Matt Rhoades, who rose through the ranks of Republican strategists doing opposition research for the RNC. Rhoades will be joined by two former RNC media strategists, Tim Miller and Joe Pounder.

The group aims to fill a huge gap in GOP efforts by gathering opposition research on candidates before elections and sending trackers armed with cameras onto the campaign trail to record gaffes. "We plan to start this enterprise because so many Republicans seem to agree that there is a need on our side of the aisle for an entity that is focused on solely holding Democrats accountable for their actions and records using research, candidate tracking, rapid response and digital tools," Rhoades told CNN.

No oaths to people, parties, governments, or ideals. Times and values change. Would you want to be held to a loyalty oath, for example, to George Bush? This country has committed acts that would qualify as war crimes or at the least, breaking international laws. Want to be held to a loyalty oath to a government that commits these acts? The original Constitution called for voting rights for white, male, property owners. Want to be held to a loyalty oath to that out-dated concept?

I have seen no reason to take loyalty oaths since, and especially to any singular person, and I don't respect those that do.

That's feudalism, not democracy.

Unspoken or spoken for that matter loyalty oaths cause secrecy and corruption. Just look at our police departments. The brother code has caused many problems and I sure as hell don't want to see that at the federal government level.
